"FNC wants to go "mainstream" now. they figure they don't need the viewers who got them to where they are."

You are correct. Laura Ingram told O'Reilly that a few weeks ago, but he (& they) didn't listen. I think that they think since CBS tanked, they will take over. So, I guess they are going more liberal every week. Too bad. I won't watch them. FR and other blogs is where I will get my news.

"Just watched the replay of the debate... the president won it hands down. Lurch had no answers except to keep saying "I have a plan" to every question. And I was overjoyed to hear W tying Lurch to the rats in Europe and he even managed to needle Lurch as a liberal. (Which must have been effective since Lurch kept stammering about "labels")."

Well put. I don't know what some folks around here have been smoking--W clobbered him. These debates cannot be micro-reviewed. Bush came off as in command, and in command of the issues. Forget all the little details, the man was ALIVE, while Lurch kept crying that the sky was falling.

The IMPRESSION left was that Lurch is scary and dour and hopeless, Bush had been through the fire and cared about protecting us and wasn't gonna have any of Kerry's bull.

I watched this debate on C-Span,and it's very easy to tune Fox out,

I have been doing the same thing during a big event more and more. But I must admit I have to quickly turn the channel when they begin to allow callers.

"I guess he has a true band of brothers." Don't forget his sisters . . . It seems both sides of the ocean aren't used to getting the straight scoop. I was getting so depressed hearing about how we were fighting the "wrong war" and "needed help" - from those cheese-eating, surrender monkeys, no less!!! If it ever comes down to US needing THEM just look in a mirror and check yourself for the mark of the beast, 'cause judgment day has arrived. But my dad sent me this'a way and now I don't feel so bad.

Bingo. Lurch was Mr. Doom & Gloom -- I'm surprised that he didn't say he had a 12-step plan for Doom & Gloom. I haven't read thru the thread yet so haven't seen the negative comments from the FReeple. The bottom line is that the president was energetic and not reticent to saddle Lurch with his 20+ year record of failure in the Senate. This was most elequent when Lurch outed himself as a flip-flopping Catholic on the abortion (stem cells) question. Bush handed Lurch his head on that question.

It would be interesting to see how many times the candidates used the words "I" and "me" vs. "We" and "us" in this debate.

I think we know the answer to that one. Kerry thinks he's a Roman Emperor.

Oh, and Bill Kristol should STHU.

It is always hard to think in a forum like that and have the perfect answer at the ready. Especially for somebody like Bush or myself who are not the greatest orators.

I am always coming up with a better way to explain something in a conversation I have had....after I get home and get a minute to put my thoughts and facts together. Even Rush has said when he goes on TV programs, he kicks himself when he gets home for not have put out the better answer he knew but did not come to him in the very short time provided.

The first debate was a "loss" for Bush, but it gave him a huge strategery ;) victory in that Kerry further defined himself as being against bunkerbusters and for a Global SAT. As far as wins go, I bet Kerry would rather ahve had a do-over.

As you pointed out, though, Kerry's biggest wounds are self-inflicted, he just goes rambling on and ends up alienating SOMEONE when he gets on a verbal bender.

It's funny my Marine buddy didn't hold very high regards for our "ally" either. :) Imagine if they suddenly decided to send troops to Iraq. oh boy!! (of course we know THAT would never happen)

Notice Kerry said he was "raised Catholic". Usually the implied continuation of that sentence is, "But I've gotten too smart to believe in God since then." Kerry doesn't believe in anything unless the UN tells him he can.

The terrorists would love that! Take some French hostages and their government would start negotiating all over themselves. They'd save a fortune in bribes. AND the sale of armpit sunscreen would shoot through the roof!

I listened to parts of it on the radio and was encouraged by a few questions (not like the night Jim Lehrer came out shilling for the DNC)...The President was much more upbeat and it helped contrast the 2 candidates. Bush made his points, repeated them and drove them home...Kerry really acted the arrogant snob especially in 2 separate questions on morality: the stem cell and the abortion question. His first response was to state he respected their beliefs, but them seem to trample them down, belittling morals and faith as if only for the simple-minded.

History will NOT parse over the questions of WMD possession down the road as it will address whether freeing Iraq from a brutal dictator was a positive transformation for the Iraqi people and a more secure region...Shouldn't THAT really be the TARGET point for discussion? I did feel that the questions were broad, straightforward, and generally, well thought out and chosen...

"It looked like Theresa started early herself while he was rehearsing "I HAVE A PLAN." Seriesly. She looked like she had played the game and additionally, her jacket was all floppy."

Yes, and she wore the same white jacket she always wears. Dry cleaning bills are a _____! Not that she has to worry about dry cleaning bills. Doesn't she have anything else in her wardrobe? Good Grief.
