"Cheney just looks like a man who would go for the jugular," she said. "Edwards looks like a man who doesn't know where the jugular is. It works for both of them."

HA! SOME PEOPLE DO GET IT!

"It's going to be a shootout.

Here, Mr. VP. You want to borrow my .45? And here's a spare magazine for the moderator...

The spin will be that Cheney was unreasonable, hateful, mean spirited, and that he kicked Edward's wife in the shin before the debate began. Edwards, on the other hand, was self-depracating, courteous, level headed, and brought a chew-toy for the Cheney dog, despite it's trying to bite his hand.

Pulled this little jem from the Orlando Slantinel.

They have a poll asking who'll win the debate and the voters have it 63% Edwards, 31% Cheney and some guy named "Not sure" with 5%.

Hope it wasn't posted. Did the search.

Whatever Cheney does it will be used against him.

True. So he might as well win this thing.

Sad, but true. It has to be a landslide for the Pubbies in order to be considered legit...for the debate and the actual election.

Hey space.
FReep mail me if you are interested in FReeping in the Orlando area sometime. We had a great FReep of Kerry a couple of weeks ago at the Orena and it was so much fun.

"Matchett-PI" is the Central Florida Chapter leader.

Cheney will win this one hands down, all the while coming across level-headed and friendly. He is too smart, calm, cool, and collected to be outwitted by Edwards and the moderator (his two opponents). He will expose Edwards as a wet behind the ears rookie and will still have time to take Kerry down a few notches before it's over.

Here is another little blurb from the Slantinel, different article.

During John Kerry's busy weekend in Central Florida, the Democratic candidate for president spent an hour trying to earn the endorsement of the Orlando Sentinel's editorial board. Ed-board chief Jane Healy said her gaggle of writers trekked down to Freedom High School, where they met Kerry in a classroom. Healy is trying to score time with George W. Bush as well, just as the board did in 2000. Oh, and if Kerry does win the paper's endorsement, it will certainly break tradition -- seeing as how the Sentinel hasn't endorsed a Democrat for president since Lyndon B. Johnson in 1964.

Not for president anyway.

Cheney will win this one hands down

Many were similarly confident before the first debate. None of us know how Edward's trial-lawyer skill will translate, or how Cheney, with four more years of wear on his heart, will perform.

That being said, I think your prediction will be right.

Yesterday I watched an excerpt of a debate from the Democratic primary campaign in which Edwards smacked Kerry quite effectively between the eyes for flip-flopping. Edwards is cleary less experienced than Cheney and appears bubble-headed on the surface. But I don't believe Edwards will come off as callow and lightweight as a lot of people are thinking he will.

Cheney has all the tools to defeat Edwards but will have to employ all of them, holding nothing in reserve. Because of diminished expectations, Edwards wins if he merely holds his own with Cheney.

Exactly. So since the reaction will be the same regardless, Cheney might as well just metaphorically rip Edwards' stinky little head off and throw it at the moderator. Works for me.

Notice I said metaphorically.

I do SO hope you're right. Don't be surprised if Edwards doesn't have some 'attack surprises' up his sleeve, to try to get Cheney off balance and out of his game.

If it goes really well, look for the floor to appear to tilt downward on Cheney's side of the table from the vastly greater weight on that side of the room.

Another priceless excerpt from another OS article.
The last two sentences are funny and I did not add them.

Campus liberals at the University of Central Florida reveled in the visit of filmmaker Michael Moore on Saturday. But for a while, the group that invited Moore to help kick off its round-the-clock, 30-day protest of the Iraq war wasn't sure how many of its fellow students would even know about the event. That's because Campus Peace Action was spurned early last week when it tried to plug Moore's visit in a public-service announcement on the campus radio station, 89.9 FM (WUCF). A station employee told the group in an e-mail that it could not have air time to "malign one party" and added at the end, "You are fools." By the end of the week, the station apologized and agreed to run the ad.

David Damron and the entire Sentinel research department (bless their hearts) contributed to this report.

Scott Maxwell, who'd have trouble getting people to pay 10 cents for pictures with him, can be reached at smaxwell@orlandosentinel.com or 407-420-6141.
