"We are terrified by the violent approach used by the Americans to subdue the city," said Mahmoud Saleh, a 33-year-old civil servant. "My wife and children are scared to death and they have not being able to sleep since last night. I hope that the fighting ends as soon as possible." I can understand, Mahmoud. It must be very frightening. But hopefully you're aware that Iraqi forces - not just Americans - are subduing the city.
And I'm sure you're at least as frightened that your wife or children are more likely to be blown up - while gathering for candy, going to the mosque, or heading to the grocery store - by terrorists.

re: "one of the holiest sites for Shiite Muslims"
I am so tired of hearing that phrase. If everything is a 'holiest site' then nothing can be a 'holiest site'. It would appear though that our forces have a handle on the situation this time and have sufficient Iraqi forces with them to clear the shrines and other holiest sites.

I can understand, Mahmoud. It must be very frightening. But hopefully you're aware that Iraqi forces - not just Americans - are subduing the city. He will parrot the terrorist line. He has to LIVE there, remember? Cheering the Americans to the press is not good for one's life expectancy there
Plus there's a good chance that he's with the bad guys himself. Otherwise one would expect that a rational man would have gotten his family out of there

all this was on President Bush's mind last night plus the pain and sorry in southern Florida. and he has to take time out to debate this annoying and shallow man.

You would think that the death of over 30 children would spark outrage amongst the Iraqi people and lead them to
out some of the terrorist groups over there. It just shows
that these people are sub human
Sumarra is just a start. We need to be back in Falluja as well and nail down these Saddamites once and for all.
And would the western media just shut up about Holiest sites. There is nothing holy about Islam. It is an intolerant hateful religion.

Muhammad's examples are the foundation of Islam. Faithful Muhammedans are exhorted to copy the life of the prophet who is described as the most perfect man who ever lived. The "nice" Muslims are schizophrenics in denial of the violent passages in Koran and Hadith which
exposit the violence and murderousness in Muhammad's life. All Muslims must emulate his exemplary life.
The Koran and Hadith are full of "Muhammad's examples". Muslims are called upon to emulate the "exemplary life" of this murderous prophet. The more civilized Muslims play a game of pretend where the beneficent examples are acknowledged and the existence of the murderous examples is denied.
The Mecca period of his life was full of kindly preachings. The later, Medina period, is where Muhammad comes into his own as a blood lusting warlord. Spreading Islam by the sword while his band pillages and rapes it way across Arabia

AP likes to use "killed" and "U.S." in the same phrase. How disappointed they must be to have to report it was 96 badguys who were killed.
