No wonder the libs like high taxes.

They feel guilty about buying
abstract art,
and they figure the guvmint
can spend the money better than
they just did.

There is a hint of vision in this little girl, there is no evidence yet of technical mastery.

I was taught that the sign of a good painter was the quality of painting hands and feet. Very hard subjects to paint well. This little girl might at some future time achieve the technical mastery of painting, but for now they are just nice use of color on a canves. IMHO

The state of the art world today: it IS the on the level of children's art. Might as well buy the real thing!

Except for the temper tantrums. By the adult artists, I mean.

Marla's father, Mark Olmstead, a manager of a Frito-Lay manufacturing plant, was the first artist in the house. "You know how some parents put their kids in front of a TV to keep them occupied?" said Mr. Olmstead, an amateur painter. "Well, I let her paint, so I could paint."

Last line got the old spider senses tingling. These paintings look a little too "clean."

"I am not by any means in the know about art, I'd bet you dollars to donuts there are
half a million kids out there who can do the exact same type of "art"

I have a three year-old who does the same the same thing. We had her out on the sidewalk doing
finger paints all by herself. She even names them. Hmmm, wonder if we could rack-up $40,000??

"I think Marla is as gifted as any child I've ever seen,"

I was as gifted as she was at that age only I got a spanking and my parents re-wallpapered the wall....

The emporer has no clothes, for sure, as far as the "art" world is concerned. It is more sad than funny.

That being said, her stuff looks better than much of what I see on the walls of the University of Miami art department, probably because Marla is not so self conscious or self important yet.

I love this story, and read it in the Times today. The girl is a doll, and I love her art.

My definition of an artist is someone who has actually sold a piece of art

Mine is someone who can do something I can't.....
