Oakland, Calif. - The Oakland Police Department has halted its use of D-U-I checkpoints after the city's Hispanic leaders complained that the roadblocks were ensnaring too many illegal immigrants. Well, we can't have that, now, can we? (/bitter sarcasm)

Try driving in Mexico without a license and without insurance. You will be taken to jail and stay there for a very long time. So now that we see that there are two standards if I am on a jury I will make sure our citizens get a break.

Cops must be pissed that they wont be able to get any money from these illegals. DUIs is just another revenue source for the State. And illegals aint got the dough to pay.
my solution is to round up these illegals that are being caught and ship them as far south in Mexico as possible.
Any thing else IS NOT a solution,

This just shows how STUPID things are getting to be in this country.
Hey, people, they are illegal aliens. That means they are breaking the law by being there. They should be snagged and immediately deported with forfeiture of the vehicle they are driving since it is being used in commission of a crime.
I agree with getting DUI's off the road. But, these roadblocks are "guilty until proven innocent" and are an intrusion into the privacy of the law abiding public.
I am in South Carolina. Several years ago, our Supreme Court found that these roadblocks are illegal except in cases where a violent/dangerous criminal is in the immediate area and there is a good chance of catching this person with a roadblock. The regime's enforcers backed off for about 6 months and have been hard at it since even with a state supreme court ban on these attrocities.
Illegals should be immediately deported, at their expense. Let them apply for an entry visa like everybody else. Get the cops out of the parking lots talking and on patrol like they should be. Roadblocks won't be needed. Saying the illegals aren't licensed but are otherwise law abiding is as big a contradiction in terms as military intelligence. They are here illegally, they are driving illegally (no license poss. no insurance), they are obviously supporting themselves (working illegally), arrest them on the spot for the obvious crimes of driving without license or insurance. Deport them if they are illegal.
Stop violating our rights with these ignorant roadblocks no matter what state you may be in.
New rules do need to be drawn up. Deport the illegals. Quit using roadblocks. Send INS into all illegal alien settlement areas in the city. Get rid of the dead wood. Don't rewrite the laws and procedures to give illegals a free ride.
If anyone deserves a free ride, it is the law abiding, legal residents of the area
