Aquinasfan, you sound like a proponent of "Classical Education."

Absolutely.

Our mission is also to equip schools in teaching such subjects through the methodology known as the Trivium (grammar, logic, and rhetoric), the educational foundation of our Western culture.

This is the single best book that I've found on the subject. It's worth more than an entire, typical high school education.

I feel like a million bucks! ;-)

I'm glad your kids got the beginning they did in Classical Education. I'm praying for something to take place so you can get them back into it. Maybe yall could start one up there? Hummmmm?

That's one little town, that could use it.

Yikes! The whole state does!!!!!

Thanks for the recommendation. Went to Amazon and bought it.

We started our kids in a Classical School in kindergarten and they continued through the 3rd and 4th grades, but because of a change in jobs, we had to move. We still have them in a private school, but I wish I could manage to get them educated in the classical manner. I have a 5 year old son that won't get the same quality of education, but I'm hopeful that his sisters and mother can help him using classical methods.

Anyway, thanks for the lead on the book!

Great!

It's not easy to do. My children are using a pre-packaged Catholic homeschool program. It's a good package, but basically it's a Christianized version of traditional American schooling. I'm kind of at a loss myself. I hope to introduce them to the "Trivium" book when they get to be at the ninth grade level.

Unfortunately, they seem to have already internalized to some degree the idea that "learning = school" and "school = pain," which is exactly what I was trying to prevent by homeschooling. At least they have more free time to do their own thing though.
