"These people fail to comprehend that there are people out there who may have a strong dislike for the major party candidates and feel more comfortable voting for folks like Nader, Perot etc. "

Very true.

LOL Too bad Perot was/is a nut; I liked his balance the budget plan.

Golly, you're from Wisconsin, right?

Correct.

Is Michels thought of as having any chance?

It depends on who you talk to. My prediction is that Michels will come close, but won't win. It's not a helpless situation like Keyes in Illinois, but Feingold has played his cards pretty well in Wisconsin. (Voted for Ashcroft, not for the Patriot Act).

One of the problems is that Wisconsinites have a history of split-ticket voting. It would not surprise me if there were a number of Bush-Feingold ballots from the state's moderates.

But WI has had just one Republican senator since Joe McCarthy. And his name was "Kasten," and he was caught driving while drunk. WI prefers Democrats for Congress and probably always will.

which they [the Democrats] argued is contrary to Wisconsin law

hy-po-cri-sy (h&-POK-r&-see): The practice of professing beliefs, feelings, or virtues that one does not hold or possess; falseness.
