If you really want to see how is-slums treat Christians, just read the last 30 years of Indonesian society (98% is-slum) and how 300,000 Christians have fled that terrible country amidst tortures, rapes, 500 churches burned in last 6 years, cathedral bombed, ministers, priests and nuns killed, whole christian villages machinegunned to death, machetes head choppings, forced conversions by death threats, malls full of women and children burned alive, all in the name of their devil cult.

When Indo Christians fled to the USA, they ask me "Why are so many moslems living here in the USA? Don't you know what they are really like? We fled Indonesia to get away from moslems and they are all over the place here in the US."

I have been doing social work and counseling among Indonesian Christian refugees to the USA since 1983.

There are many different passages in the Qur'an that can be taken out of context to justify just about anything an unsavory person wants. Indeed the Old Testament/Hebrew Bible records God ordering Saul to kill every last Amalek, down to the last man, woman, and child (even livestock). By the same token, the Old Testament/Hebrew Bible orders the Jews to treat strangers kindly so long as they come in peace. The Old Testament/Hebrew Bible also orders the Jews to put to death anyone who blasphemes the Lord, practices homosexuality, commits adultery, etc. etc. And yet, as a Christian, I am of the firm belief that these commands were inspired by God and should have been followed to the letter. In fact, many Christians criticize the Jews for NOT living up to these and similar commandments. Should we look down on the Jews for trying to follow God's commandments (even though they failed, just like we would have)?

Muslims have very similar commandments (after all, much of the Qur'an was loosely derived from the Old and New Testaments). Don't get me wrong, from a theological perspective, Islam is a false religion. But if one really wants to understand Islam, you must approach it from a balanced point of view. That is, you must let the Qur'an interpret itself. It is this same balanced point of view that allows a Christian like me to conclude that Islam is a perversion of Judaism and Christianity, and therefore a false religion. At the same time, allowing the Qur'an to interpret itself also conclusively proves that terrorists like Bin Laden are not behaving like traditional or "fundamental" Muslims. According to the Qur'an, these terrorists are going straight to hell.

Here are some quotes that I took from the Islam Denounces Terrorism book that serve to balance Islam, just as there are plenty of verses in the Bible that provide balance to the overall Christian and/or Jewish message.

"Do not kill yourselves." (Qur'an, 4:29)

"Those who believe and do not mix up their belief with any wrongdoing, they are the ones who are safe…" (Qur'an, 6:82)

"A good deed and a bad deed are not the same. Repel the bad with something better and, if there is enmity between you and someone else, he will be like a bosom friend." (Qur'an, 41:34)

"... Let not the hatred of a people [who once] obstructed you from the Sacred Mosque lead you to transgress. Help one another in benevolence and piety, and help not one another in sin and transgression…" (Qur'an, 5:2)

"God commands justice and doing good and giving to relatives. And He forbids indecency and doing wrong and tyranny. He warns you so that hopefully you will pay heed." (Qur'an, 16:90)

"Eat and drink of God's provision and do not go about the earth corrupting it." (Qur'an, 2:60)

"...if someone kills another person - unless it is in retaliation for someone else or for causing corruption in the earth - it is as if he had murdered all mankind. And if anyone gives life to another person, it is as if he had given life to all mankind..." (Qur'an, 5:32)

"There are only grounds against those who wrong people and act as tyrants in the earth without any right to do so. Such people will have a painful punishment." (Qur'an, 42:42)

"O You who believe! Show integrity for the sake of God, bearing witness with justice. Do not let hatred for a people incite you into not being just. Be just. That is closer to faith. Heed God (alone). God is aware of what you do." (Qur'an, 5:8)

"If your Lord had willed, all the people on the earth would have believed. Do you think you can
force people to be believers?"
(Qur'an, 10:99)

"There is no compulsion in religion. True guidance has become clearly distinct from error." (Qur'an, 2:256)

"So remind them! You are only a reminder. You are not in control of them." (Qur'an, 88:21-22)

"Make allowances for people" (Qur'an, 7:199)

"those who give in times of both ease and hardship, those who control their rage and pardon other people - God loves the good-doers" (Qur'an, 3:134)

"... You will never cease to come upon some act of treachery on their part, except for a few of them. Yet pardon them, and overlook. God loves good-doers." (Qur'an, 5:13)

"Fight in the Way of God against those who fight you, but do not go beyond the limits. God does not love those who go beyond the limits." (Qur'an, 2:190)

wtc911 wrote: What the heck have you been smoking? turkey and religious freedom in the same sentence? turkey has laws that stridently prevent religious freedom, unless of course the religion is islam. Christians have been locked up in "modern" turkey for the crime of giving away bibles. Dig a little deeper and you'll see that this guy calls for a "united islam" nation wherein all the nations with muslim populations would come together under one banner...does the word caliphate sound familiar? Either you have bought into the propaganda or you are selling it. Which is it?" --------------------------------------------------------- wtc911, Turkey's record on religious liberty isn't perfect, but is a far cry from the black picture you seem compelled to paint. Here is what the US State Department has to say on the subject: "The Constitution provides for freedom of religion, and the Government generally respects this right in practice; however, the Government imposes some restrictions on non-Muslim religious groups and on Muslim religious expression in government offices and state-run institutions, including universities, usually for the stated reason of combating religious fundamentalism. The Constitution establishes the country as a secular state and provides for freedom of belief, freedom of worship, and the private dissemination of religious ideas. However, these rights are restricted particularly by other constitutional provisions regarding the integrity and existence of the secular State. The Constitution prohibits discrimination on religious grounds." "There was no significant change in the status of respect for religious freedom during the period covered by this report. Some Muslims, Christians, and Baha’is faced some restrictions and occasional harassment, including detentions for alleged proselytizing or unauthorized meetings. The Government continued to oppose "Islamic fundamentalism." An intense debate continues over a broad government ban on wearing Muslim religious dress in state facilities, including universities, schools, and workplaces. Following the June 2001 closure of the Islamist-led Fazilet (Virtue) party for "antisecular activities," two new Islamist political parties were formed. The leader of one of these new parties, a former Istanbul mayor, is under investigation for allegedly "fomenting religious enmity" in public speeches made several years earlier." ------------------------------------------------------ For a fuller treatment of the subject, see the following US State Department Link: http://www.state.gov/g/drl/rls/irf/2002/13986.htm

How many of those Christians came from East Timor or surrounding areas? The people violently repressed since the 1970s with Kissinger's winking "indifference" can point fingers at more people than Indonesian Muslims.

Fascinating how many people demand some sort of condemnation of terrorism from Muslims, then condemn Muslims as liars when such a statement actually appears.

Fascinating also how many call the terrorists "animals" for decapitating hostages, then insist that the terrorists themselves need to be decapitated by other Muslims in order to right the situation.

Some folks are just hard to please, I guess.

Out trollin?

You joined in the middle of the night, earlier today, 9/22/04, to tell me that by terrorizing the terrorists and 'Moderates' like the terrorist Cat Islam to stop their slaughter of the world that I'm hard to please?

Your 'enlightened' 'common sense' isn't common sense. It's common Liberal lunacy that gives our enemy our blood, our freedom and our peace.

We're going to get hit before Nov. 2. I hope you're accounted for on that day.
