They already knew Burkett was a nut! Everybody in the media admitted as much -- including the Boston Globe, for cryin' out loud. Burkett's been trying to retail this story for five years!
Somebody else gave Rather the courage of his own convictions to run with the story -- the "unimpeachable source". Because nobody ever would've mistaken Burkett for such a title.
WHO is the "unimpeachable source"? Ben Barnes? Max Cleland? Robin Rather? Terry McAuliffe? John Kerry, himself?
From the CBS website::
CBS had not previously revealed who provided the documents or how they were obtained.
Burkett has previously alleged that in 1997 he witnessed allies of then-Gov. Bush discussing the destruction of Guard files that might embarrass Mr. Bush, who was considering a run for the presidency. Bush aides have denied the charge.
In the statement, CBS said: "Burkett originally said he obtained the documents from another former Guardsman. Now he says he got them from a different source whose connection to the documents and identity CBS News has been unable to verify to this point."
I just love your name Izzy Dunne. A favorite. The issued pajamas will of course be ugly, same size, same color,
swastika insignia, and wrinkled.
You made me laugh thanks.
So does anyone know when OReilly is going to interview President Bush?
If Burkett is telling the truth, it could be Marty Heldt, farmer from Iowa and famous Bush hater. He has been accused of publishing and selling fake guard records on the internet.
Dan has already committed pajamakazi....
"Plausible deniability."
Ooohhh -- nasty!
Ah, dream on.
8-) Sorry, I was referring to the article. It wasn't one of my better efforts at humor...
Thanks for the inside info.
He thought that all the clamor would die down and we'd all go away. He thought if he just "moved along" on his daily routine, we'd all forget. Well, he thought wrong. There is a revolution afoot, and we aren't going to take it anymore.
This isn't what they wrote. And Rather can spin around all he likes. But the execs at CBS should have written:"We at CBS now believe that the documents used to support a 60 Minutes II story putatively about the President's record while serving in the Texas Air National Guard were fradulent. The admitted source of the documents has been revealed to have had a long history of personal animus towards now President George Bush, and is no longer considered reliable. CBS can no longer vouch for the authenticity of these documents. And that must be the standard for journalism, not that others are required to refute a story by proving the negative. That the staff of 60 Minutes II ignored warnings from its own uncertified experts, misrepresented themselves to others who were then said to be witnesses or approved of the story, ignored the objections of the author's own wife and son, and otherwise proceeded in a manner suggesting journalistic bad faith on their part, these and other questions will be address by an independent investigation just commissioned by CBS management. Now that's what they should have written. But they did not. This entire incident was a mistake, which we deeply regret. Nothing is more important to us than our credibility and keeping faith with the millions of people who count on us for fair, accurate, reliable, and independent reporting. We will continue to work tirelessly to be worthy of that trust.

And where is Harkin from ??
Kind of makes a person go hmmmmmm
Yes it does. I wonder if Marty attended the Rodeo. Maybe he had a lamb to show or something.
Didn't Burket say he rec'd the documents at a cattle show??
Hmmmmmmm
Gosh ... this is better then watching a soap opera *L*
