There is a former Texas ANG colonel on Fox and Friends now (Col Earl Livey) who confirms that Bush volunteered for a program that would have taken him to Viet Nam! (Palace Alert). So let me see if I have this straight...one joins the guard and volunteerd to go to Nam in order to avoid service in Nam.
(Sorry if this is a repeat - but I just now heard it)

Bush not only volunteered for Nam after he was a pilot, but when he joined TANG, they had pilots in Vietnam and he would have expected to be sent there.
Kerry tried to stay out of the military by filing for deferments, while Bush joined the Texas ANG voluntarily while they were actually flying in combat. That he was never sent there was merely because his training took so long that the war was basically over by the time he had many flight hours.

I just spoke with CBS to request that they do an interview with Col. Livey. Of course, they had no idea about Palace Alert.
CBS Evening News with Dan Rather:

Just spoke to ABC World News Tonight Newsroom --- Phone: 212-975-3691 or 202-457-4385, Fax: 212-975-1893
They did not know of Col. Livey or Palace Alert. They suggested that I give them details and send to:
abcstoryideas@yahoo.com (on subject line, put WNT for World News tonight)
Maybe some more calls from the pajamajadeen will get some results.

Thanks for posting. This was uncovered a week or three ago and needs a good thread again...

Unlike Kerry who originally tried to get out of going, but that request was denied. Of course, the Dem spin is that he volunteered. NOT!

Maurice Udell can back this up too. Numerous people from the unit have said the same thing. Killian's son said it too.

The most important thing Col Livey stated IMHO was that no favor was given to Bush to enlist because there was nobody waiting to get into pilot training. He said that they even advertised for pilots from time to time.
