Through all of the frenzied debate of the past week, the basic content of the 60 MINUTES Wednesday report - that President Bush received preferential treatment to gain entrance to the Texas Air National Guard and that he may not have fulfilled all of the requirements -- has not been substantially challenged. Maybe that's because the allegation has not been substantially proven.

Refuses to state who gave them the docs.
Still has not allowed anyone except the 'experts' they shopped for, to look at the actual docs in their possesson.
Will USAT divulge the identity of who gave them the docs they received? Will USAT allowed xperts to look at the actual docs in their possesson?

I, Professor William T. Drill, calligraphy expert, hereby testify that it is entirely possible that the documents were produced by Lithuanian gnomes using horse-hair brushes gripped with their teeth and ink made from crushed beetles. If they're careful it looks just like a Word document.
Sheesh.
To: Mike Fieschko
USA Today's own experts said they were forgeries.

It is clear that some people do not live in the rational universe. Perhaps it becomes hard to distinguish real life from comic books after spending most of one's adulthood in the parents' basement.

The documents could be true in content but unauthentic from the standpoint that they are not the original documents and have been reproduced. reproduced = forged.....

The pdf file doesn't have those attachments. Haven't looked on their site.

I look at the "experts" they cited and every one of them has either backed off(Matley) or been discredited or said CBS portrayed what they did incorrectly.

"Glennon confirms that the superscript "th" and proportional spacing of the typeface of the four documents were definitely available on typewriters as early as the late 1960s. (attachment 4) "
***
...but doesn't mention the make and model of such typewriters. Neither does CBS make ANY attempt to find out what sort of typewriters WERE ACTUALLY IN USE at that TexANG unit in 1972-3.

CBS News' reporting determined that the source of the memos had access to the documents he provided Well, duh.

Two of the examiners, Mssrs. Matley and Pierce, attested and continue to attest to their belief in the documents' authenticity.
Didn't Matley backtrack and say he's only authenticating ONE of the SIGNATURES?

Mary Mapes, the producer of the report and a well-respected, veteran journalist whose credibility has never been questioned, has been following this story for more than five years. Can you say obsession?
To: bjc
"continue to report on all aspects of the story..."
ALL aspects? CBS is going to put on those who say the documents are fake? Really? Are they going to interview the Killian family? They are going to interview the detractors? Are they even going to ACKNOWLEDGE the detractors?
Oh,was that a pig flying around?????
To: Cableguy
For now, the disagreements among "dueling experts" have not been resolved. Which is why they presented BOTH sides of the story, right?
RIGHT?
