Having said that, given all the questions about them, we believe we should redouble our efforts to answer those questions, so that's what we are doing."

If that is the real statement, the lack of clarity is breathtaking. From a news(?) network?

this still raises more questions..

a)who is "in the position to know."
b)they said that the information was accurate - NOT THAT THE DOCUMENTS ARE AUTHENTIC.
c)what efforts are they talking about? who and what is the methodology?

all in all, they basically are giving the public a big, fat middle finger.

Now I know why they waited for Limbaugh and Hannity to finish their national radio shows before releasing this.

Nice spelling, Andy, and nice grammar.

You established that the memos 'were' accurate? You mean they're not accurate anymore? Or did you mean you established they 'are' accurate?

And do you mean by saying they are 'accurate' to say something less than 'authentic?' Is CBS still willing to say the memos "are authentic" or not?

In other words, they need additional time to fabricate some more outlandish theories or ad hominem attacks to make the forgery appear more credible.

Oh, I get it ... they are "accurate" but not authentic and beause of this there must be "further investigation"?

LOL!

How come ANYONE that CBS spoke to PRIOR to their show said they were forged?

"We established to our satisfaction that the memos were accurate or we would not have put them on television. There was a great deal of coroborating [sic] evidence from people in a position to know. Having said that, given all the questions about them, we believe we should redouble our efforts to answer those questions, so that's what we are doing."

Translated: Hey, maybe we have enough credibility left that if we say we are investigating, this will just blow over and people will forget about it. But, while we are waiting for the results of our investigation, lets talk about the content of the memos.

Translation: We need more time to ply that 86 year old secretary with food and wine at the 21 Club. Tickets to Letterman and a night at the Pierre should secure her testimony

The guy who wrote them is dead. The women who should've typed them didn't, but says there are no such memos.

Who could they be talking to???

let's make sure I have this right. if you can't find anything on a guy, it's ok to make up stuff and then use that as a pretext for demanding someone answer a question.

Andrew Heyward

Heyward, Rather and most of the CBS news staff will end up before congress and/or the FCC to answer questions. When they refuse to reveal sources, the case will end up before the Suprreme Court. Either that or the FCC will revoke their licenses. CBS should read the Red Lion Pa Case. That case went to the Supreme court and the licensee lost. That I think the Red Lion case was a Warren court era decision. CBS is playing with dynamite.

If CBS's loses that case and it is likley they will, Viacom may have no choice but to divest themselves of CBS and the CBS O&O stations. The media could lose its right in many cases to keep sources secret. THis is a huge gamble.

This statment makes zero legal sence. It is a man refusing to listen to his lawyers or a client so guilty that giving in even a little bit means certain disaster.

Next step: Congressional hearings. If Rather/CBS/Kerry continue playing it this way, Kerry will not win a single electoral vote. Advice to CBS from Karl Rove: Keep stonewalling. Keep up the good work! Bwahahahahahhahaah!
