The fact is, the fact that something is amiss is brilliantly, blatantly obvious. You don't have to be a "Certified Document Examiner" to know those memos are weird. You do have to know a lot about fonts, typewriters, and word processors to be able to prove those documents did not come from a Selectric Composer or Executive model typewriter--but you don't have to be a genius to know they didn't come from an ordinary, common, monospace typewriter. Good point. And the author sets up this lie that Buckhead and the rest of us figured this all out by looking at the documents on the TV screen. TankerKC did notice something wrong with the formatting of the documents from the TV image, but the rest of us figured it out by looking at the documents posted at cbsnews.com. And if Anson read the freeper board, which is clear he did, he would know that. But he deliberately left that info out, to this look like yet another VRWC. That's unconscionable.

For those who don't live in NYC: The New York Observer is not a real newspaper in the sense that you think of it. It's essentially a snotty gossip rag in newspaper format, published specifically for the media elites of Manhattan. In fact, if you live in the "correct" apartment buildings in Manhattan, you get it delivered for free whether you want it or not, and a very large percentage of its mail subscribers also get it without paying. The main reason it exists is so that the very wealthy publisher gets invited to all the good parties, because owning a "newspaper" makes him a "player."
In other words, it's precisely the sort of publication that would most want to destroy the reputations of anyone or anything involved in the blogosphere or otherwise involved in the ongoing challenge of the NYC news media monopoly.
Ten years ago, it used to be said that the Observer had never made a dime of profit. I don't know if that's still the case, but I wouldn't be surprised.

Before plunging in, an admission: Your correspondent doesnt have a clue whether the documents in question are genuine. Translation: I am a Kerry voter because I have no clue.
And cares lesseither about their authenticity, or what Dubya was up to when he was (or wasnt) serving with the Texas Air National Guard. What Mr. Bush has been up to the last four years, and will be for another four, given the chancethats tastier fish to fry.
Well then, tell your candidate to get off the Vietnam-thing. He's the candidate most responsible for the lack of discussion of "the Issues".

I skimmed this screed.
Robert Sam Anson is quite deceitful.
Not worth responding to.

First (leaving aside how suspiciously well Buckhead puts sentences together for a righty blogger), theres the extraordinary, yeah, boggling, knowledge of typewriting arcana. More remarkable still are the circumstances under which discernment occurred. Namely, viewing the document on a TV screen from a presumed distance of six to a dozen feet. Folks who make their living at this sort of thing rely on magnifying glasses, if not microscopes. To the author of this pile of tripe, 2 things:
1) The forgery was PATHETICALLY BAD.
2) Freepers are THAT good.

If Buckhead is some kind of Republican operative, so am I. The idea that the motivation of the person revealing the falsity of the documents somehow cancels the idea of their falsity is, to my way of thinking, completely disingenuous. If Buckhead hadn't noticed it, hundreds of other people were waiting in the wings. Exactly. There were probably hundreds of freepers who posted on those threads that night. It's easier for them to pretend that Buckhead is some operative than to deal with the fact that these were obvious forgeries that many people commented on.

[string of expletives, removed because JR doesn't want them on FR]Don't get too worked up by overanalyzing the statement. Anson wrote it that way an an intentional cheap shot. He wants it to piss you off. Don't give him the pleasure.

But he deliberately left that info out, to this look like yet another VRWC. That's unconscionable.Imagine that. A lefty writing a hit piece about how "dishonest" we are is not entirely honest himself. Color me surprised. Lying vermin.

More remarkable still are the circumstances under which discernment occurred. Namely, viewing the document on a TV screen from a presumed distance of six to a dozen feet. Folks who make their living at this sort of thing rely on magnifying glasses, if not microscopes. And they dont venture opinions unless the documents in their puss. This reporter is (along with Dan Rather and a thousand others) symptomatic of what is wrong with "journalists" everywhere.
There is no 'arcane knowledge' necessary to know how the publishing industry has progressed from typewriter and typesetters to desktop publishing. I know significant details of this history, because I lived it.
Secondly, the documents were not viewed from the TV. The thread that the "reporter" quotes from was a thread where PDF files of the documents were posted. How could he have quoted from the thread and not noticed the TOPIC of the thread?
Lastly, the demeaning comments about how well put together the post was for "righty blogger" is straightforward bias, bigotry, and prejudice.
This site is populated with well spoken, educated, informed people that work (or have worked) in law enforcement, businesses of all types, the government, and the military. Of course there are the less than articulate posters that misspell occasional words, but those same posters may have years of experience working with the specific subject under discussion. To dismiss their substance by criticizing their form is small minded and defensive.
Robert Sam Anson exemplifies the elitist, irrational, incompetent left-wing "journalist". He is in, unfortunately, a big club.

The arrogance of these people is incredible. I watched Rather stand by "his" story in the face of evidence that the doc's were forgeries. There's no way he could have known one way or another, but he's got to look like he does something other than read the news, like he's a real journalist, so he basically says with my great knowledge and intellect and years of experience in document and fact checking, I've concluded this story and these documents are real. Same with this guy. All American's are stupid and I'm here to set them straight. Anyone who doubts the great MSM is a plant by the Republican party. No one but liberals has a right to doubt the great Dan Rather or CBS. I swear, I don't know how these people can actually put their name on articles like this, then be seen in public.
