Come on Powell. I agree to the extent that taking "pot shots" at the Palestinians isn't the answer. The one sure way for this conflict to be over is for Israel to nuke the thugs.
Why are we so hellbent on having another Arab nation anyway? Aren't the existing Arab nations producing enough murder, poverty, and ignorance to please everyone?

This type of two faced hypocricy really ticks me off. If we found an Al-Queda terrorist camp, we would bomb it immediately. Why can't Israel.

Powell is just doing his part of the ever-effective "good cop - silly cop" routine.
"Retaliation is not a solution" to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, he said. "I don't think they (retaliatory raids) are very helpful."
There is no word yet if Powell will be dispatched to Moscow or Beslan to try out his "silly cop" routine there.

You know deep down the Bush administration wants Israel to destroy HamasWere that true Hamas would have ceased to exist as a viable organization several years ago, as would Fatah.

I dissagree. Powell keeps the liberal media at bay as he is not someone they truly hate. He also follows orders so we sort of get the best of two worlds.
But you are of course right in that this statement is stupid. We sure shut down the Al Queda training camps. And they killed far fewer Americans than Hamas has killed Isralies. By proportion it would be like losing 300,000 Americans.
I think Israel is being far to soft. They should arrest the families of Suicide Bombers and keep them in prison till the terrorism stops. This should include their children who should be Put in orphanages without contact with Palastinians including their parents.

Why are we so hellbent on having another Arab nation anyway? To provide terrorists to kill our troops in Iraq.

more wisdom from the man who came up with the idea that we not oust Saddam in 1991 when there would have been less impact.

Powell said at a news conference, Palestinian leaders have not taken control of all Palestinian security groups to crack down on violence. Arafat controls his own terrorist groups, and his "security groups" do a nice job of killing those who "collaborate."
And as for Mr. Powell... remember this quote "You're either with us, or against us" (in the war against terrorism)? People like him are part of the problem. Islamofascists can not, and should not, ever be appeased. Lack of resolve on our part only encourages them.
All in all, Powell reminds me of the idiot euroleaders in the 1930's that were falling over themselves to appease Hitler.

"Retaliation is not a solution" to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, he saidThen what is the solution? Shall they stop by with some pie and coffee and try to 'talk it over'?!

If this is for real, then maybe Mr. Powell needs to be replaced.

I hope our next Secretary of State does not let the career diplomats lead him around by the nose as does Powell. I agree. I also hope that the next Secretary of State will, if he could, do a thorough house-cleaning over at Foggy Bottom. Get rid of thos pro-Islamic-anti-Israel types over there.
The U.S. Department of State has been the U.S. and Israel's "thorn in our flesh" for years.

re: "Retaliation is not a solution"
Attacking terrorists in training, before they can harm you, is not retaliation. Mr. Powell needs to learn the difference between retaliation and preemption. Come to think of it, wasn't it Powell who urged Bush 41 to stop the destruction of the Iraq force as it was running for its life from Kuwait?

I am with you 100%. I have had it with Powell and the appeasers in the State Department. If you ask me, it's time to re-think our entire foreign policy when it comes to who our allies really are. We need to be aligning ourselves with the likes of Russia and India in the global fight against terror, not the weak western Europeans. Russia and India have first hand knowledge of the threat posed by the Islamofascists. I know Putin may not be the most democratic of leaders, but in times of war sometimes my enemy's enemy is indeed my friend.

WRONG!!!
Retaliation is the ONLY way to deal with these animals. Retaliation that is swift, powerful and extremely destructive. After that, level a mosque or two, after that round up the usual suspects and "question" them. Remove the threat SHOULD be our new battle cry. Not negotiate. These vermin ARE NOT INTERESTED in ANYTHING anyone has to say. Wake up!!! They want us DEAD. Us , our family, our kids, our Moms, our Dads, our brothers and sisters. They WONT STOP. If we are to survive we MUST adopt the Russian model of dealing with terrorists. They take our people hostage, we find their Fathers, Brothers,Husbands,Sons, Brothers in law, Sons-in law and disassemble them and FedEx the parts to the "hostage takers" Then say " If you do not let the hostages go, the women are next.
I am a God fearing man with a heart the size of an aircraft carrier, but these are not people we are dealing with. These are not humans, they are savage animals bent on our death. Fight fire with fire, they cannot exist with us they have proved that to us over and over....End rant
