Interesting contrast between these British reports and today's New York Times.

The Times ran an article on Putin's speech as their lead story with a big headline. But they called it a "siege," referred to the perps as "heavily armed insurgents," and only mentioned Islam in this very snide comment: "Authorities said they believed that the terrorists were Islamic militants, mostly Chechens."

A second story suppresses many of the worst details and basically blames it on the Russians, for mishandling the siege and for provoking the Chechens in earlier years.

Disgusting.

I had a disturbing thought, reading this: are the people in Chechnya laughing as they, too, read these reports? I know the terrorists were said to laugh when the children fainted or became ill. Does Chechnya have a right to exist, after this?

When will we learn? We must be sensitive, we must be tolerant, we must have dialog, if we try they will listen, trust them to have truthful negotiations.

foreigners pour into our country, most don't want to be American citizens they want our country. The total refusal to adopt our culture is evident, most want our economic system, our money, but not our culture. Christmas will not be holiday in a few years because it offends. I get critized for comparing these Islamic extremists to rabid dogs. There's nothing you can do for a rabid dog, except shoot it so that it can't hurt others.

I'm not so naive to think that these terrorists can't turn from their ways and repent, and receive mercy. ...something a rabid dog can't do. I know it's a long shot, and not likely to happen. But the question is how long does one wait for this?

My answer (right or wrong) is not very long. If somebody is coming after me, or my family, the natural response of any man who feels the inclination to protect those around him (especially his family) is to shoot first, and ask questions later. Unfortunately, even those (as in the case of recent happenings in Iraq) who call for ceasefires, and mercy only do so to regroup so they can keep fighting.

Middle easterners...particularly muslims in Russia (and this country) are going to have a difficult time in the very near future. The backlash from this has yet to completely unfold, but HOPEFULLY people in this nation will learn from it, instead of just standing around WAITING for it to happen....God forbid we suffer another 9/11, or anything similar.

I have not been following the larger world of geopolitick sufficiently to understand where this round of terrorism falls in the scheme of things. Will it cause Russia to act? To join us in Iraq? Etc. Any thoughts?
