Bump ,for my ex and son riding it out in Melbourne
Agree on the former, not the latter. I think she's a little north of the forecast track, probably just a wobble.
Well at least they had sense enough to come in out of the rain. My husband's sister was going through a wild phase back then. She and another one of her wild friends actually rode the roads during Fran drunk as skunks. They laughed about it afterwards and bragged about their invinciblity. Talk about stupid. Thankfully she has matured a bit but, it wouldn't surprise me to see her try it again.
Janet, there is a phone number at that link I gave you. They *may* be able to tell you if her neighborhood was evacuated and which shelter she is in.
I'm sure she's fine as that area has had no severe storm activity yet.
A couple of closing thoughts ...
I am soooo gonna miss my cable modem!
Damn, I wished I completed an absentee ballot for the general election! I wonder if they would count it if I didn't make it through the storm?
Someone please carry forward this point 'cause I probably won't be back on FR for a week or so ... Consider the aftermath of Charley and likely Frances ... the destruction and devastation to individuals, life savings wiped out, tourist economy down for years to come. Then remember this is an event we've had days to prepare for. Add in the fact that while there will be terrible sorrow associated with these storms, there is no lasting terror across the rest of the country. Now consider if these were two low yield IND's set off on both coasts of Florida. Imagine hurricane cleanup in radiation suits? Never happen. Florida would be GONE. Think of the impact on the rest of the nation. We'll soon have a real-life example of a FRACTION of the aftermath of another attack on CONUS. Now look at the two men running for office! A Kerry victory should scare everyone spit-less.
This is NVA signing off from Palm Bay. May God keep us all safe.
But the NHC won't change anything based on that. It could easily be chalked up to a previous error in positioning the eye of a storm during a weakening cycle.
I am in Boca Raton and it is bright and sunny outside right now. There has been some intermittent rain and some wind but nothing out of the ordinary.
What is that source? I have not heard the TPC, the NHC or any national/regional weather orgaization say that it will "strengthen significantly."
Godspeed and God Bless.
NVA, good luck; check in as soon as you can! We'll be praying for you.
Andrew begins with the letter "A", not the letter "F".
I viewed a model animation last night, but have not seen any today.
It is clearly struggling, a good thing. It may not strengthen.
I lived in Beaufort when Hugo hit. I remember driving up to Charleston after it hit and the entire way there were no tops to the trees. It was as if a Giant with a huge chainsaw had walked down the highway and cut the entire top off the forest. We're talking about roughly an hour to hour and a half drive.

Great! Now you can rest a little easier. :-)
I will never forget the look on my Pop's face the morning of September 14th, 1979 when we fist saw our house on the Bay. That, to this day, was the second scarriest moment of my life and I've been struck by lighting (not directly) twice, breathed lungs full of water twice, had pins screwed into my hip bone, compound fracture of the radius and ulna near my wrist (of course I passed out whe I saw that one), and a divorce. The first scarriest moment I'm sure was shared by all of you on another September morning.
Don't count your chickens before they hatch.
Western wobble then. I agree that she'll continue NW, and probably strengthen somewhat over the Gulf Stream.
winds are now 115mph
Ivan next....
