I always enjoy it when European "intellectuals" begin strutting around like roosters claiming superpower status as if saying it makes it so.

And they accuse Americans of being arrogant.

Europe is on the decline. It has an aging and declining population coupled with the massive burden of an overly generous social welfare system. They can't afford both guns and butter. They have lived for so long under the US security umbrella, they have no idea what the real world is like. The US spends more on defense than the rest of NATO combined. Our military has become so advanced that Europe has a hard time even operating with our forces. Any one with any understanding of the current situation knows that Europe won't spend the money necessary to upgrade their defense. Like France, they will have a Force de Frappe, a hollow shell.

**** 'em. France insisted on its own nuclear weapons, independent of NATO. Denmark didn't, instead producing a politician who stated the need for loudspeakers along the border over which could be shouted, "we surrender" as the Warsaw Pact formations rolled.
