There's no doubt the FReeper police would do that. All we'd hear is how trashy they acted bringing up sex and rap songs, etc.

Yep. Just remember what you've seen on this thread: no one votes for a candidate based upon their daughters - but it's critical that Bush's daughters acted like this in order to attract young voters.

Hahahaha -good one! I used to expect that too on this forum. Have you been called every name in the book yet for rejecting the tacky twins moment?

Pretty much. *shrug*

Actually, I'm not sure which would be worse: the rabid, blinding partisanship I suspect is on display, or if these folks actually believe your average twentysomething acts like that. Feels like the "bigotry of low standards"...

(Have these people never met good humored, well raised 20 somethings??? Sheesh!!!)

I see them every day. And I suspect they'd have acted with a bit more decorum than this.

It really isn't a big deal, but I'm frankly surprised at how many folks believe this behavior is representative of an average "well raised" twentysomething. Not where I come from...

"this behavior??"

I have four kids 17-24 (solid, moral mature Christians) with LOTS of friends, and I teach LOTS of kids this age as a college professor, so I know what I'm talking about.

The comment about 'Sex in the City' may have been unnecessary, but there was nothing in their 'behavior' that was out of line.

You people really need to get a grip. The overreaction to these lovely girls' (first major) appearance is what's out of line. They were just kidding with their Dad, and telling the world how much they love him.

I'm sure he was bursting with pride.

As do I. Their delivery (is that better than "behavior") was weak - not that of an average twentysomething. It makes no difference in the overall scheme of things; I just find it humorous to see folks claiming this is somehow expected/normal.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm.........I don't believe that speaking in front of millions of people for the first time comes under the category as "NORMAL." They were nervous. Yikes! What's WRONG with you anyway??

My guess is that those of you who are bent out of shape about this either have nothing important to worry about, or are just hyper-critical, petty curmudgeons.

I would LOVE to see the same stress put on any of you and see if YOU would do as well as the twins did.

Get over it. There's a battle to be won, and their Dad HAS to win it, for the future of America.

..............The real trick is learning to fake it. ........
...............................................

The best attempt I ever saw in the movies, was Mayor Shin's daughter, in "The Music Man". Even she, an experienced actress did not do it well.

They were there, They were nice, They were real, life is good.

I agree with you 100%!! I know that I wouldn't have been able to get up in front of millions of people and speak - and I'm 47.

My mother always told me - if folks think they can do something better - then let them go ahead and try. Sometimes they will - but just let them go ahead and try - perhaps whatever it is doesn't seem quite as easy as was thought. (Did that last sentence make any sense?)--Sorry - I'm typing on virtually no sleep.

Look, the Bush twins were complete dorks up there last night. Their material and entire approach were off-base and inappropriate. This wasn't some MTV award presentation or a roast of their parents, this was a convention to nominate a President of the United States. And as a strong Bush supporter, I was very disappointed in their performance. Everything else in the convention has had such a touch of class and grace. These two were dorks. Thank God that Arnold and Laura were so good in their speeches.
*******
They are kids with parents who are allowing them to be involved and still BE kids!!!! Just made me love this Prez. and his down to earth family even more. It looked unrehearsed and just plain real.......imagine that. Something obviously people aren't used to seeing come thru the boob tube.

.............And this lady with the remote mike reporting excitedly with the coarse, stressed-out voice from various state delegations. It's worse than finger nails on a blackboard after a hangover. Whats' up with THAT?......
.........................................

I was at my computer when I first heard her, (purposely arranged so I can't see my TV from there). My first thought was, "what the hail is Hillary yelling about now?"
Talk about a chalkboard moment!

GASP!!! and he still got nominated!! Even if his daughters didn't appear to be perfect politically groomed little barbie dolls. I love this prez. and his family. REAL people!!! No pretentions, nothing to hide, just REAL.

Me too. My daughter is their age, and she called and said they acted very amateurish and ditzy.

I would like to put your daughter up there in the same situation and see how she comes across.....what do you want to bet, nervousness and anxiety would do the same to her. Then lets get together on Free Republic and rip her apart.........wonder what you would think then?

"it looked unrehearsed and just plain real."

Hey, you can be unrehearsed and just plain real, and not be clueless dorks. And you can say all you want about these two being young and all that, but for recent college graduates to not have a better feel for the significance of a national convention TV appearance indicates an embarrassing level of immaturity. They were dorks. Fortunately, it appears they have caused little damage for their father's campaign. But their appearance was as dorky as that dumb little stunt the Democrats had at their convention, where the 11 year-old brat got up there and embarrassed herself whining about Cheney's language.

"No pretentions, nothing to hide, just REAL."

Real, and dorks. Their appearance rivalled the Democrats sending that little 11 year-old brat up there at their convention to whine about Cheney's language. A stunt that didn't work. "Real" is fine, but I would hope that the "real" that is showcased would be more mature and less self-absorbed, especially given the circumstances and signficance of the event at which they were speaking.

Good grief, newbie. You've got pretty high standards for someone that had to take a glove to the prom.

If clueless dorks is what you want to call them, that's fine, but how much public speaking do you think they have done? I like them, and more so for the guts it took to get up in front of that crowd and that tv coverage at that age. I couldn't do it at 50 yrs. old. Now I'll sit back and watch them mature and blossom as time goes on. I thought it was cute...Barbara has that same little nervous giggle her mother Laura has, only Laura has toned hers down and matured. You could still hear it with Laura once in awhile. I just sat and grinned thru the whole thing and thought....OMG they are still actually kids....how awesome in this day and age with the life they have lived.
Says ALOT for their parents. I was proud of all of them.
Would have any of them come stay on my little farm anytime, and not feel like I had to roll out a red carpet.

self-absorbed,
*****
ALL kids that age are self-absorbed....its a fact of life, you were and so was I. I still think they are a gutsy pair and I'd lay bets they wrote all that themselves. Just go right ahead and say what you want.....but you watch how they grow, and probably how one day somebody in the media will drag that tape out and make them laugh and embarrass the heck out them. That is LIFE.

Yeah, that's it. "Either agree that they were wonderful, or you're a petty curmudgeon! No dissent allowed!"

I would LOVE to see the same stress put on any of you and see if YOU would do as well as the twins did.

Why set the bar so low? I have more public speaking experience than you can imagine, and I could've made impromptu remarks that scored higher than what we saw the other night. LOL.

As a matter of fact, my daughter *does* make frequent presentations to thousands at software conventions in Vegas, San Francisco, Atlanta, and New York. She doesn't talk about Sex In The City...

BTW, no one is "ripping" anyone. It's my daughter's *opinion* that the twins were rather juvenile for their age. When I was their age I was writing my MBA thesis.

bump to your posts.

In my opinion, the twins came across as REAL and unrehearsed, especially to the young crowd their presence was aimed at. The girls obviously have a sense of humor and shared that quite successfully.

It's amazing how some folks just don't have enough in their day to do and decide to pick apart other people based on their own levels of judgement - or jealousy. They are most likely the same ones that give running judgemental commentary on what Bush/Cheney/Rummy/Powell/Rice *should* do but don't/didn't. Phooey.

"All kids that age are self-absorbed"?

College graduates, whose father and grandfather were both President of the United States, and they don't have a better feel for the significance of that event outside of their own self-absorbtion? Embarrassing. And I really have to disagree with you about 'all kids that age' being so clueless.
