I hope they know what they are doing. The last time they did that they did that the clone went on to get elected Senator from Mass, and then run for president.
ya know... it might not make a bad movie plot.... a frankenstein twist.... and you can imagine the implications... esp. if the little clone retained the genetic memory of the dead dna donor. . . and he cloned... SHE WHO MUST BE OBEYED
There have been perfectly healthy cloned animals, but still a huge percentage with serious problems and/or premature aging, and no way to consistently avoid the problem. Definitely not ready for humans -- yet. But it will happen in our lifetime, hopefully for saner reasons than wanting to "replace" a dead loved one -- a plan which is bound to fail, as no one can duplicate the experiences which the first edition had, and which were an integral part of his/her personality. And the first one's personality wasn't shaped by the experience of being pressured to act just like the original, and facing parental disappointment at every difference displayed.
Researchers are now working to find out why the lab has to be located in an old castle - no other facility will do - and why the embryo has to be struck by lightning at the moment of implantation.
