Do you think that Courthouses should be forbidden to display the Ten Commandments?
Not if they're not presented as the basis of our Constitution. If they're presented as inspiration for our law, then I would welcome them.
Do you think that teachers should be forbidden from leading the class in prayer?
For public schools? Not if they offer their students a chance to avoid participation, and if they allow students of other faiths to lead prayer in their own ceremonial traditions after the Christian prayer. Private schools are private, and should have no such requirements.
Then what's your problem?
I have no problems with accepted law and common interpretation of it. Furthermore, I don't agree completely with Rhenquist and Thomas, but some of their colleagues on the Supreme Court didn't agree, either. If President Bush appoints a couple of justices who happen to agree with Rhenquist and Thomas on some of these issues, then so be it. I know this debate will rage on as long as our country is a viable Republic. If Patrick Henry, one of our most fiery patriots, didn't take a position of separation, we can predict that the argument will go on indefinitely. As long as there is a discussion, everything will be fine. I am mainly in opposition to those who think it's beyond discussion.
