Not in Iraq.
This is significant for America to understand. The combined death toll of training accidents, auto accidents, other accidents, homicides, and suicides is actually about the same as the current death toll in Iraq.

Just being on Ft. Bragg is a dangerous thing. And that's not even mentioning Fayetteville.

They have been doing field stuff all month. I know his division went out yesterday after a jump. Worry about them so much and now I have to worry until either a phone call or he shows back up.
To: jern
Hmm. 25 casualties. Sounds like they were in a bus.

This is significant for America to understand. The combined death toll of training accidents, auto accidents, other accidents, homicides, and suicides is actually about the same as the current death toll in Iraq. That's no joke. I don't know if this is common knowledge or not, but drinking alcohol is absolutely prohibited for U.S. military personnel in Iraq. We figured that it was probably a net gain for the Army's casualty rate in having us face IEDs rather than drunk driving. (Granted, I'd still rather take my chances against the latter).
I've neglected to check since we got back, but I'm still curious to check what the normal peacetime rate of deaths in the military is versus what it is now. I honestly doubt there is much of a difference.

82nd has instituted a zero tolerance policy on drinking and driving. If you have one drink, you cannot drive, period.
To: jern
Prayers sent to all involved, as well as family and friends. God bless them all.
To: jern
Prayers to the courageous, brave and honor-bound Paratrooper who was killed, and the others injured during the accident.
You made a commitment and were training to protect and shield America and Her citizens. You are honored in my American heart, and remain a true hero in my mind. May God rest your soul.
