Not a matter of pleasing me.
It's a matter of protecting the citizens of this country.
The onslaught should have been stopped long before EITHER of the Bushes became POTUS.
The PCness at that point in time, and even today, wouldn't allow it.
I've worked with JTF-6 in the past. They do a fair job in assisting with drug interdiction.
Most of the units doing their two week rotations will be service and support: grading roads, patching fence, not doing anything to assist apprehensions.
I hate remembering that the Marine engineer platoon that was mending the "tortilla curtain" just outside of Naco a couple of months back wasn't even armed -- and ended up pinned down by snipers from the smuggler cartels. The Marines couldn't fire back and the law enforcement personnel present refused to do so, citing that it would "create an international incident". Guess it only counts as an incident if the bullets come from our side of the border.

Yes, in all likelyhood it should have started before RR also.
When you have a process in place to enter your country that is supposed to be the law and more people than what is equal to 2% or 3% of your total population flout that law to enter your country every year - something should have been done long ago.
During Abe Lincoln's day we, basically, had no process in place to enter the country the way we do now.
There should have been better border protection since, at least, the early 1990s, probably back into the late 1970s.
Since 9/11/01 there is no excuse for NOT having better border protection. The terrorists have made it crystal clear that they can do us damage in our own country. If the way is, basically, clear for them to enter our country, bringing 50 to 100 lbs of whatever with them don't you think they'll use it.
According to the last estimates I saw 20% are apprehended trying to cross into our country illegally. That means that 80% are never seen unless they get into trouble AFTER they reach their destination here in country.
I don't know about you, but that bothers the dickens out of me.
It bothers me too Joe, but honestly, Im just glad to see some progress.
The alternative is gridlock and that's looking a hell of a lot better to many of us than 4 more years of Bush and the 'Stupid' Party bending over backwards for Vicente Fox and his illegal aliens.
If 4 million Mexicans and citizens of other foreign countries crossed our borders, without permission, in a single year "in Abe Lincoln's day", we would have declared war.
