No, and as I said before, they explain it in their interviews.

Bikinis are traditional beachwear for women. It works for their sport. Unlike what someone else said, these are not thongs - they are pretty much standard beach bikinis, with tops like sport bras. They are what women usually wear on the beach.except for the tops, which are actually more modest.

Now, if you are a male, maybe you are the 5% that wander the beach in the latest bikinis from international male. However, most men go for the trunks and tank top. Most heterosexual guys don't wander around in a bikini bottom these days. Trunks are the norm. And besides one strange fitness dancing show I saw on ESPN2 once, I've never, ever seen a guy where a bikini-type top.

Re-read what I said, as it applies to both sexes: They are wearing what is accepted and normal beach wear throughout the entire US. I'm sure there are some women who were big trunks and tank tops to the beach, but they're not playing a game of volleyball, and they certainly don't have the bodies that pro-volleyball players have.

And again, for the men, having them wear bikini type bottoms like male divers wear (oooh, the scandal in men's diving - why don't we cover that next???) - would just look absurd - and they don't want to look like fools.

I couldn't care less about the "morality" of the outfits. They can wear whatever they want. Let's just not pretend that there's some sort of athletic necessity to the teeny-weeny bikinis tight enough to be a second skin, and which are worn only by the women. They're dressing like that to attract eyeballs, period.

Male eyeballs at that. Sex sells.

You all say what you want. I think Misty May has one fine bottom.

anything that needs to be judged is not a sport.

Would that include the line judge in football?

Actually, I think it is a matter of terms or semantics. Are you more comfortable with the term "Athletic Competition"?

Surely the athleticism of gymnasts cannot be denied. I do understand what you mean by "judging" (Figure skating, Gymnastics, etc). But I can think of no sport that is not subjected to some form of judging or judgment calls.

I have to disagree, 2 on 2 volleyball is not easy.

Agreed. It almost meets George Carlin's 2 requirements to qualify as a sport:

  1. It must use a ball.
  2. The potential for injury must be reasonably high.

But why do the women play in 2 piece bathing suits? Why don't they wear shorts and tees the way the guys do? Are they that afraid of losing male viewership if they don't?

Same kind of question for 'women's' gymnastics.

I see you're point. Some judging is unavoidable. What I'm getting at is the total lack of any objective measuremetn at all.

Beach volleyball is a legitimate sport, but very dull
to watch unless it's played by hot babes. Even at that,
the 6-foot muscular figures and the industrial-strength
sports bras are a bit of a turnoff.

"You're a clueless idiot. And you are calling others a moron? "

Ah, thanks for the personal attack based on your utter lack of reading comprehension skills. I was calling people who don't think beach volleyball is a sport morons. That part of my post had nothing to do with what they wear.

Anybody who thinks beach volleyball isn't a sport is a moron. Period. They couldn't play a match against these two women without having a heart attack or giving up. They're only attacking beach volleyball because of some bizarre personal grudge, and trying to use their outfits as some lame justification of their lamer position.

And anybody who would call me an idiot because they couldn't manage to read a single sentence that pertained solely to the sport and comprehend the meaning falls into that same category as them.

Try some careful reading next time before you post an attack based on something you didn't read correctly.

Volleyball, and its variant, beach volleyball are most certainly "sports." A sport is generally an athletic activity which requires skill, strength, and has an established set of rules.

In the gray area of sport I put any activity that requires artistic judging. This would include things like synchonized swimming, rhythmic gymnastics, and the like. Atheletic? yes; sport? no.

ask the same question for men's diving then....

They play in bikinis because it is traditional beach wear. Look at all the other women's teams from around the world. They wore almost identical outfits. They're extremely functional, and the women have the benefit over the men in that they can wear minimal outfits and not look 'gay'.

This might be fun to watch, but it most definitely is NOT a sport.

This may be fun to react to, but it is most definitely NOT an argument.

Now you're getting it! Why not have the men's vb wear the bikini type bottoms that the male divers wear???

Thanks for proving our points! ROFLMAO

Excuse me, but if the women had more clothes on, they might look less 'lesbian' laying in each other crothes. You response STILL doesn't fly.

You've got to be kidding! 2 on 2 volleyball, on sand is terribly difficult, and the physical exertion is tremendous. Playing 4 on 4 beach volleyball for fun is one heck of a workout!
