One of the really bad things about that idea is..um..

What do we name the other 4 'states'??

Good idea. Properly divided, California could end up with 2 Democrat Senators from West California (a narrow strip of coastal land includling LA and SF) plus 4 Republican Senators from two new states of Northern California and Southern California.

I'd rather see Texas remove itself from the Union than see it carved up into different states. If we are an independent nation then perhaps we could protect our borders from the flood of humanity that is coming across now.

What is with the fact that the federal government REFUSES to do anything when they KNOW that known terrorists are coming and going at will over the border?

"New States of convenient size not exceeding four in number, in addition to said State of Texas and having sufficient population, may, hereafter by the consent of said State, be formed out of the territory thereof, which shall be entitled to admission under the provisions of the Federal Constitution..."

Which means under the provisions of Article IV. Admission of new states requires the approval of both houses of Congress.

How about we divide up Alaska?? Into 4 parts... so Texas can be the biggest state again?

Northern Alaska can be renamed Utopia. Central Alaska can be renamed Leninland, East Alaska can be renamed Liberalvia and Southern Alaska where most people are, can be Alaska.
