I'm told Florida law states police can't force people to leave even in a mandatory evac situation.
Roger that, Spok. They were probably concerned about loss of property from the hurricane and theft. People make a choice sometimes that is detrimental to their nemesis. A mobile home park is not the best choice in weathering the hurricane season. I commend you for your sevice to the community as a volunteer fireman. I know you give best each time you respond. I'm sure those deceased are up in heaven now, and saving a place for all of us. Take care my friend.
As long as authorities realize that some members of a population that elderly are going to need some hlep evacuating.
I was amazed that within minutes of landfall, the press was needling Jeb on the "mistake" of evacuating Tampa, when the damage was elsewhere.
Mother Nature is a bitch!
On Fox they showed the ones built with the newer wind standards. They had withstood the storm and had almost no damage . The reporter said if they had taped their windows they would have faired even better.
As these destroyed homes are replaced they will be replaced with the ones with the newer standards . To be honest they seem to have weathered the storm better than some of the frame homes.
