i understand it perfectly. i also know that under it all, some how she knew it wasnt right, and she wanted to change. its her lack of changing that exposes her laziness.

I wonder who was paying for all the food --- I have a feeling this woman is a victim of our welfare and food stamp program --- far too much is given and with food stamps, there is no control over the kinds of foods people obtain. They need to cut off the cookies, cakes, cokes and other junks foods and limit food stamps to something like rice and beans.

If I was a mean and nasty person, I'd say you're still suffering from mental illness -- you're obviously delusional if you think that somebody who was obviously as bad off as she is could help herself.


I'm sorry for your mental illness, I suffer from a laundry list of illnesses myself. If you were able to pull yourself up by your bootstraps, you're one of the lucky ones. I too am lucky -- somebody who cared about me recognized the harmful patterns I was putting myself in and I was hospitalized twice -- once for three weeks, once for a month.

I've spent the past two years seeing shrinks, other mentally ill people, their families. I met people in the hospital who could not care for themselves. This woman was obviously in that category. Hell, I've gone for a week with out bathing or changing clothes -- not from any type of laziness, but because I literally didn't see what was wrong with it.


The next paragraph is kind of graphic... don't say I didn't warn you.

My therapist has told me a number of times that there's a similarity between people who are addicted to drugs, alcohol, and people who find themselves in a constant state of depression... People who are addicts tend to know it's a bad thing... people who are depressed tend to know life shouldn't feel like it does to them. But, it's like sitting in a bathtub of your own shit -- it's soft, it's warm, it's familiar, and it smells so bad so it keeps other people away.

It's not laziness keeping people in that tub -- it's an illness.

the drunkard is responsible for his actions, despite his feelings. same for one who is mentally ill. here comes the mean part: if they arent smart enough to do something about it, they really dont deserve pity. those who learn and still get stepped on are the ones who deserve it. those who dont learn need to be left alone to figure it out. thats capitalism placed on the social aspect.

I heard a Southern preacher speak one time and he says he went to the grocery store to get him some "preacher steaks"....which are slang for hot dogs. He was in line behind a woman who had a full cart of goodies. She was paying with food stamps. He leaned over and said to his wife, "Honey, this is what I'm buying for my family (pointing to his cart), and that is what I'M BUYING for hers (pointing to her cart)"...SO TRUE....we skimp and save our money while our tax dollars are being squandered by the welfare slobs.

its not "cruel" to expect people to function like people, but if you feel like being a nanny, go for it. i volunteer at a hospital, im an Eagle Scout, i love and hate as well as you do. if you think im cruel simply based on my holding people responsible, too bad. no skin off my back.

Is it cruel to expect people with one leg to run a marathon? (I know, some people have tried, more power to 'em).

In my mind it would be cruel to expect everybody with one leg to do so. It would be cruel to berate somebody who had one leg if they didn't run a marathon.

In my mind, this woman had the mental equivalent of having one leg (if that).

My best friend is legally blind. It would be cruel of me to suggest he become a pilot. And then hold it against him if he didn't.

It would be cruel to laugh at a mute who tried to sing. But even though that mute is a person, we should act her to function like a person. (And a perfectly human function is to sing, is it not.?)

You're an Eagle Scout? Congratulations. Too bad the scouts didn't teach you compassion.

I humbly suggest that this thread has seen its day and that it should be mercifully interred somewhere in the depths of the Smoky Backroom. The atmosphere of continuous wise cracks, sniggering jokes, and insulting speculation about a sick woman who's no longer around to defend herself smacks more of a junior high locker room than "the premier conservative news forum". This thread does no credit to anyone who participates in it, myself included.

And yes children (and we all know who you are), we all get it. The woman was obese. I'm quite sure she knew it too, every day of her life. You've made your jokes, now kindly toddle off.

and a Scout is Kind. a Scout is also Brave, meaning we are taught to handle adversity. anyone can, and many do. ever been to the Paralympics? ever been to a martial arts tournament? i saw a man in a wheelchair do Songham Taekwondo forms (without kicks, but the rest was placed precisely)

asking them to run a marathon is wrong, expecting that they cant is too.
