"Rassmun has been quoted as saying he is a recovering alcoholic. That could explain a lot about his different memory of what happened. Maybe his pension is lousy and he cannot get a decent job because of the booze."

Wow! That's interesting. I hadn't heard that before. I've been wondering how this guy, born in 1948 (a year after me), became a Green Beret Lieutenant at the age of 21, and then retired from the L.A. County Sheriff's Dept. at the age of about 46. I retired from New York State after 23 years at the age of 56. In order for me to be eligible for my pension, I had to be 55 years old.

It makes me wonder what the pension program in L.A. County is or was, that would allow him to retire at such a young age. If Rassman had a drinking problem, maybe he was forced to retire. But something about his only being 46 at the time of his retirement bothers me. If he had to do 25 years, he would have had to be 21 when he joined the department, but we know he was in 'Nam then. If he had to do 20 years to retire, then he would have been 28 when he joined the force...kind of old and close to the usual age cut off. Of course they'd let him use his service time toward his age qualification, which would entitle him to be that old. Any Freepers out there know anything about the police retirement system out in L.A. County, who could shed some light on this?

OReily has been fairly obvious that he is pulling for kerry.

His acceptance without question of DNC talking points, his lack of journalism in reporting political Democrat attack stories, and even his pro-homosexual coments do NOT speak of a person of conscience. Ratings perhaps.

"Why is O'Reilly taking Kerry's word over that of 250 SwiftBoat vets?"

Not a great admirer of BO, but I really think he is acting soft on this story, knowing if he takes a strong anti-Kerry posture, the Kerry supporters will not take the risk to interview with him.

OK, Look at the time frames for these campaigns3 months to 1 year. How does JF'n get 4 in 4 months.

Kerry also served on the USS Gridley from June 1967 to July 1968. The Gridley did a WestPac cruise and spent a total of 82 days on plane guard duty in the Gulf of Tonkin. Kerry served in Vietnam from November 8, 1968 to March 26, 1969. He received two stars from Vietnam and two from duty on the ship.

Only if you have no principals.

While I'm sure there are Republicans who have no principals .. A better guess is that as a rule, democrats more closely fit your profile.

Help is on the way.

The books are en route so I am told. I plan to be a half dozen to pass around.

They even pre ordered 50 and have had beaucoup enquiries at my local liberal birkie bookstore. Imagine that.

Kerry's Nam credibility is damaged....how much we will have to wait and see.

However since there are so few undecideds in this race, it may not mean much anyhow.

This race is for the base.

BIG TIME BUMP!

And to reiterate your most salient point of all:

I think it needs to be recognized that this is another fact in proof of Kerry's inability to lead. It should cause us to look long and hard at his record in the Senate where he has only sponsored 5 successful bills in 20 years - where his absentee record is 75% and where as a key member of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence he only showed up for 11 meetings in EIGHT YEARS.

I sent an e-mail to O'Reilly after doing a little research on Mr. Rassmann. So much to say, but had to keep it short!

I saw your interview with James Rassmann tonight. FYI, Mr. Rassmann USED to be a Republican as he recently switched parties. He also donated $1000 to Kerry's campaign several months ago, apparently the first and only time he has donated to any politician. He admits that he voted for Gore and that he detests President Bush. In other words, a Republican in name only.

Another thing -- Mr. Rassmann has NOT signed an affidavit regarding his version of events, but the Swiftboat Veterans HAVE. Therefore, I trust them over anyone associated with the Kerry campaign.

Funny, but I don't think you've been looking out for "me" lately.

He admits that he voted for Gore in 2000 and that he "won't consider voting for Bush this year."

IOW, a RINO.

Just for clarification, does anyone know the average number of bills that a "normal" senator might sponsor in 20 years? It might help to have that part of the equation as we spread the word about sKerry.

Rassman said he was in the water and believed he was under fire. But the gunner on the boat next to Kerry said no. The guy in the water can't see very well at all and hearing is not much better.

This is not only very true, it should be self-evident.

I believe Rassman himself said he tried to stay underwater as much as possible because he was afraid he was under fire; of course, the combination of being underwater + boat engine noise would make it almost impossible to know whether there was fire or not -- unless you were hit. Which, no one, including Rassman, was.

Someone needs to put the question to Rassman: Is it possible you were mistaken about being under fire?

I think it's important to give Rassman every opportunity to back off gracefully. He at least seems to be a decent person, and maybe he got caught up in Kerry's lies without knowing they were lies.

You know what bugged me about O'Reilly. He said at one point that, "The Swiftboat controversy is dying down. Thank God."

He should know that it's not dying down at all. It's just starting.

Pat Buchanan filled in for Joe Scarborough last night and did a very effective job. John O'Neil was on. O'Reilly should book O'Neil.

Are you aware that Jim Rassman, the much touted Viet Nam Vet who is in the new Kerry Ad and who spoke at the Democratic convention, was a former Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputy who was forced to retire after he was accused of forcing a female officer into his car and driving her to a remote location and molesting her? Now I know that doesn't mean he wasn't rescued by Kerry, but talk about some serious lack of character!

I know this is not widely know outside the department, but you can expect this to start hitting the media very soon.
