No matter how you feel about McCain, the actions you recommend would only hurt Bush's chances at reelection. He's obviously not popular at FR, but he's widely popular by many moderates, some of whom are certainly still undecided this year.
Amen. I'm tired of listening to his filthy sewer.
Bumping McCain would allow the Democrats to crow that the RNC is "censoring" its own members and that this is "proof positive" the GOP is "held captive" by the "far right" wing of the Party.
NO!
If you exclude McPain, you give the media an issue. I don't think he will say anything negative towards W. And yes I agree with your frustration with him over his disparaging remarks about swiftvets.com, now is no tthe time to create another issue.
Solve this after the election.
The only words coming out of that RINO's mouth should be support for Bush. Did he condemn Michael Moore's trashfilm that attacked Bush? I don't trust him. For a Senator, McCain carries a lot of weight, and for that reason, I don't want to see him off the RNC Convention speaker list. Better him on our side, although at times, I wonder.
Go look on Opensecrets.org; McCain gets contributions from people who donate to liberal DemocRATS with the sole exception of McCain.
No ... McCain is actually providing a valuable service here: providing supporting cover for President Bush on the "dirty tricks" charges and allowing the Bush Campaign to distance itself publically from the actions of the Swift boat vets.
The Swift boat vets now get the room to maneuver around Kerry, without having to get bogged down on the defensive answering charges that they are operating in collusion with the Bush Campaign (since McCain is saying that they aren't).
To Whom It May Concern:
I just heard of Arizona Sen. John McCains condemnation of the new 527 advertisement by the Swift Vets for the Truth. I am outraged that Sen. McCain apparently thinks that only the voices of those who fawn over John Kerrys Vietnam service should be allowed into the public debate. I am upset to the point of wanting Sen. McCain removed from his prime-time speaking role at next months convention. If Sen. McCain didnt feel the need to condemn Michael Moores propaganda, if Sen. McCain didnt feel the need to criticize the Democrats from relentlessly pursuing the AWOL/Guard myth, I question why he now seeks to discredit decorated veterans who served with Sen. Kerry in the war that Kerry trumpets as his ultimate qualification for this nations highest office.
Please consider this email a vote for pulling John McCain from the prime-time speaking roster. Replacing him with Henry Hyde would be ideal.
This is to the US Capitol and will connect you to any congressman or senator.
That doesn't surprise me. But my main point still stands - bashing/punishing McCain at this point would be a giant negative for Bush's chances. He is simply too popular. I actually know 3 different people who have told me the only way they'd vote for Bush this year is if he replaced Cheney with McCain. That statement in and of itself is rather insane, but that is still the type of popularity he has with many people. Just let him speak and let him keep campaigning for Bush.
Your frustration was my first reaction too; however, after I calmed down a bit, came to the conclusion that perhaps McCain did this rebuttal on purpose to run interference for the White House...just a guess, mind you....
Let the crybaby speak at the convention, or he becomes the news and the issue.
However, script every word. Read this, John, and then go away.
The GOP needs McCain. If some fringe whacko liberals support him is of no consequence. He does speak to moderates and moderates are members of the GOP as well. I think, with the recent release of the book, Unfit for Command, (I think it is) by the SWIFTY's, his position might be to somewhat curb the stridency of the angst against sKerry. There are some who will be put off by such a vehement outcry from a single group. McCain wants the GOP driving every federal branch just as much as we do.
Thanks...
I agree with you.
you are right. i smell a carville here.
I completely agree. Bush can't get bogged down into a sideline fight about whether or not he's behind this group. Expect the white house to distance themselves from swiftvets.com. They'll have to, and that's OK. It liberates swiftvets to follow up with more.
One thing is certain, McCain just clicked on a very white hot spotlight on this story. Hmm....
