OK, might be true, but when the AWB sunsets, there will be gazillions of new ones available. That's no reason for me to want to go out and replace my post-ban Armalite.
B) The telescoping stock feature is useful to have on a CQB carbine version of the AR-15. Some people DO use these things for home defense. Believe it or not, with the right ammunition, they can be very good in that role.
Personally, I don't use mine for home protection, I use my SIG P-220. But I guess if I did want to shoot a rifle inside my house, I can see the utility of using a shorty.
C)Principle should be more than enough reason. You should care about owning them because it's your birthright as an American to be able to. You don't have to own one, but you should care about the ability to just as much as I care about people being able to freely practice Judaism even though I am not Jewish.
Oh, OK. Yeah, the principal is important, that's why I want the AWB to expire and be swept into the dustbin of history.
But I guess I'll probably just hold onto the old one. I mean, it will be nice knowing I could have one with a bayonet lug, but not nice enough to go to the expense of replacing my Armalite.
That was my point. That's a personal reason to want the ban to end, so we can once again get standard caps at a reasonable price. It's part of the same legislation. You can't consider one without the other.

Some people do use them though, and just because I happen to use a P-220 as well doesn't mean I don't care personally about people who might want to use a tactical carbine. Just like I don't drive a Porche, but would care very much if the government tried to outlaw them.
The 30-30 is the most common hunting rifle in the U.S.
Sit down and STFU. Withholding a vote on bad legislation is why you work for a majority in Congress. Your leaders control the agenda.
Have you noticed that since the Republicans gained control of the legislature in '94 that there haven't been any hearings with liberal celebrities screaming "What are we doing to our children?", ala Merril Steep who played a farmer in a movie and was therefore an agriculture expert in the eyes of the filthy democrats that controlled the congress?
Fairness is not giving liberal idiots an emotional issue to hit you with.

You seem to have misunderstood the question I was asking. Your points are well taken, and I can assure you that you and I have no disagreement in this regard.
My point was not philosophical, it was technical. Specifically, is there any PRACTICAL reason to replace my perfectly good post-ban Armalite M-15 with a new one in pre-ban configuration. And other than being able to bayonet the groundhogs around my camp that I terrorize with my ugly black gun, I can't think of anything.
If you want a deeper meaning from my qustions, I guess I was just making a point that the AWB was a major flop in that it didn't really do much to keep military-style semi-autos "off the street". Or out of my hunting camp, in this case.
And yeah, before you say it, I know the Second Amendment isn't about hunting.
