Hmmmm
A while back, I called a tech supplier in Michigan about something or other. As I explained what I needed, the receptionist started snickering in my ear. I finally asked her what she thought was so funny. She said, "It's that wild southern accent of yours, I can't believe people really talk that way. It's cute though."
I pointed out that although I live in the southern United States, my accent is from YORKSHIRE, which is in ENGLAND, and not even the south of England, because that's where I am from originally.
What was that about dumb?

At least when H.L. Mencken trashed the South (see his essay
The Sahara of the Bozart) he did it with style and wrote well. And, coming from Maryland, he was enough of a Southerner to have the right to criticize the South (though I wish he hadn't done so for the Yankees' sport).
Maher doesn't even write or speak well.

Slimeball Bill Maher needs to get a real job. This guy
is always on the wrong side, then expects sympathy. He
should be flipping burgers. The South, Christians,
Rednecks, the dumbest part of the country. Give me a
break. The South is sure a lot more than what's in
his dopey warped head.

Has he ever even been to the South? To Charleston? Virginia? New Orleans? Miami? Or, even Little Rock, Clinton's former home base? He knows nothing of the South, because he is a smug and self absorbed elitist. He has never met a Southerner, that he has spent any real time with, or understood. His mind is filled with cartoons. He is as talentless as he is ignorant. Fortunately, people like him run afoul of the realities of the world, and often come to a bad but well deserved end, because they are so sorely ignorant of those realities.

Hmmmm, the people of New York City, the only city to ever be hit with a terrorist strike, is going to vote for Kerry. And this guy calls southerners dumb?

"I might remind Bill that his Savior-King, Bill Clinton, is from the south." As is Carter. Hmmm....perhaps they (I say "they" because I've never been a RAT voter) finally wised up and realized that their RAT heroes are a bunch of lying weasels.

I think Maher meant Southerners is stupid 'cause they done figure out what to do by reading chickens**tBut I bet he thinks liberal Hollywood celebrities which figure out what to do by reading their New Age crystals and horoscopes are really smart.

They lead the region in dumbness, yes they do. Because they, there's too many people that just think every problem can be solved by either more guns or more Jesus. And like I said, I'm with the people who are following their compass; not with the people who are reading the entrails of the chicken. They are the people who are reading the entrails of the chicken.
Can't believe this idiot has the nerve to call anyone dumb, and also insult their religion. Time to cancel the HBO subscription (The Sopranos is over anyway).

Just as our enemies care nothing for life, the left cares nothing for the truth.

"Idiot." Well said.
Having been born and reared in Louisiana; I would say that the Southerners may indeed be more ignorant (statistically less educated) than other parts of the country. But I would put up three or two arguments about that "dumbest" business.
Case in point: Back in the fiftys there was a Cajun in Southwestern Louisiana affectionately know as "Cousin Dud" (pronounced Koozan Dud) formally Dudley J. Lelanc. Well Cousin Dud created a product called "Hadacol" which was to cure all of our little aches and pains. It actually had more alcohol in it than anything else.
The product which was advertised in newspapers, radio and early tv sold pretty well.
Hadacol came to the attention of a bunch of really, really smart Northerners (one a dem dere coorporations) and they bought Cousin Dud out for several million dollars, which was real money in them days.
So now you know the rest of the story about "Geritol" (still available - only advertised as a vitamin supplement) or how dumb Southerners are and smart Northerners are.
