jmstein7, did you get a copy of this to your good friend Mark Levin???

I'm listening to Mark on 770 WABC right now and he is nailing the Berger case. Either he is monitoring FreeRepublic or somebody's feeding him some great material lifted for this site.

Could you fill me on what this is about? The post is only the speech with no background. Who said that this speech was written by Berger, or that it was copied from stolen notes? Where did we make the connection?

In a speech today at the UCLA International Institute, Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry offered his comprehensive approach to fighting the global war on terrorism. In the second of a series of speeches on national security, Kerry presented a plan to identify, disrupt, and eliminate terrorist networks using all the resources at our disposal. As CIA Director George Tenet starkly reminded us this week, we are threatened by a far-flung terrorist network that will continue to operate even if Bin Laden is caught. Last December, John Kerry addressed the Council on Foreign Relations and outlined a global vision to make America safer and more secure. Today, he is detailing the terrorism component of that vision, strengthening the nation’s position in the global war on terror".

Kerry gave this speech to the above.

It appears that specific data in this speech came from Berger and apparently some came from the material borrowed.

This speech had been displayed on Kerry's website. Sometime yesterday, it disappeared from the site. However, we were able to snag it on Google. It was posted as a reply yesterday and as a separate thread today.

Ok, I get that part, but this is what I'm confused on.

It appears that specific data in this speech came from Berger and apparently some came from the material borrowed

How do we know this, since we don't know what Berger burgled?

Berger said he reviewed thousands of pages, he apparently homed in on a single document: the so-called "after-action report" on the Clinton administration's handling of the millennium plot of 1999/2000. Berger is said to have taken multiple copies of the same paper. He is also said to have taken those copies on at least two different days.

Oh, nevermind. I just went and found yesterday's presser and got my answer. Thanks for your initial response. Here's what I was looking for:

"Right after the documents were taken, John Kerry held a photo op and attacked the president on port security," said Rick Santorum, a Republican senator from Pennsylvania. "The documents that were taken may have been utilized for that press conference."

Sorry not to get right back to you. My wife just got a bee sting or wasp sting, and I have been monitoring her and tending to her and will be again.

Eva had an excellent reply that deals with your question:

The purloined documents were evidently the after action assessment of the success and failure of the security measures for the Millenium period. This assessment apparently also included recommendations for future security policy, including many of the same measures included in the Patriot Act. Supposedly it is the negative remarks that Berger was seeking to hide, but it was the positive recommendations which Kerry made use of, and which were never passed on to Ashcroft.

I have pinged .30 carbine to help here.

July 45h, The link you brought re Santorium's remarks yesterday ties into this and Evas remarks:

"Right after the documents were taken, John Kerry held a photo op and attacked the president on port security," said Rick Santorum, a Republican senator from Pennsylvania. "The documents that were taken may have been utilized for that press conference."

Would the 3 of you do me a big favor while I take off watch my wife, please nail this aspect down re how Berger may have used the data to help Kerry and still hid it from John Ashcroft.

Please ping me with any results or discussions you have. This is so germane to the speeches that were given by Kerry and then removed from his site yesterday.

Thanks to all 3 of you for your help here.

Now to tend to and monitor my wife.

Now to tend to and monitor my wife.

I was enjoying a meal with my wife (while listening to Mark Levin on very low volume on WABC), but much to my wife's dismay I had to run back to my computer when I heard jmstein7 discuss this FreeRepublic thread with Mark!

I think that the situation is becoming more and more obvious as we put the pieces of the puzzle together. First we have Richard Clarke claiming that he made a security assessment and recommendations to the Bush administration that were ignored, that no one was listening to him. Well that was because he made the recommendations to the Clinton administration and never passed them on to Bush. Then he lied when he gave his public testimony to the 9/11 commission and said he did tel Bush. Clarke was in trouble for that and everyone wondered why nothing came of it.

Then we find out that part of the reason that nothing came of it was that Burger bits had stolen all the drafts of the security assessment that proved that Clarke had lied. Now, Ashcroft has to figure out of Berger bits was only covering for Clinton or if he was intentionally destroying the conflicting evidence behind the Clarke lies as well, making Clarke a party to a conspiracy to deceive the gov't. (think Martha Stewart)

We could also tie Jamie Gorelick into this little conspiracy on the basis of the fact that it was her memo that was discussed in the Clarke after action assessment as being the number one road block to security. (We know this from the Ashcroft testimony) So, if Gorelick was in on the scheme to blame Bush and hide the faults of the Clinton administration by getting on the commission, we can add her to our list of conspirators.

Of course Bill Clinton is behind the whole scheme, but this will never touch him. Kerry, on the other hand was a late comer, after the fact kind of accomplice, who only sought to benefit by using the information to paint Bush as the cause of 9/11 and adopt the recommendations that Clarke had made to Clinton as his own plan.

It seems that Kerry's whole intent with this strategy is to hunker down and increase security at home. This would allow him to pull out of Iraq and Afghanistan quickly, to satisfy his anti-war base. Then deal with attacks by now unhindered terrorists from abroad at home, which he knows would come.

I think another reason he may have pulled it is that it generated a backlash from the civil liberties wing of his base.

Whether he removed copies or originals it makes no difference, the same classified data would have been on both.
