. . . You can't understand a phrase such as "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion" by syllogistic reasoning. Words take their meaning from social as well as textual contexts, which is why "a page of history is worth a volume of logic." New York Trust Co. v. Eisner, 256 U.S. 345, 349 (1921) (Holmes, J.). . . . " SOURCE: Sherman v. Community Consol. Dist. 21, 980 F.2d 437, 445 (7th Cir. 1992)

Why was the phrase "endowed by our creator" even used then?

Thanks for the intellectual dishonesty so early in the morning...maybe you ought to be on the Imus show, you'd fit in well with that ole clueless coot!

"Why was the phrase "endowed by our creator" even used then?"

Well why don't you go find the answer to that question and then report back to us?

The author of this article should try the same study on all the state charters and constitutions of the period. I think then he will find the context for the words found in these documents.

How about this: Why don't you people stop trying to take God out of everything when clearly a MAJORITY of people throughout the history of this nation are religious in "nature" as so EVIDENT in our founding documents...Judeo CHRISTIAN ethics are the basis of law founded in this country.

Just because Jefferson was a deist doesn't mean Christian principles were not used as building blocks. Stop the insane arguments, you've lost!

The 1st amendment went through 12 differant versions before they settled on the current one. One said that we shall make no distiction from one denomination of Christians over another denomination of Christians. That's something that we are not told. Also, Bible classes were required for graduation from most High Schools as late as the 1940's, that is until the infiltration of Godless Communisum took root in our legal and political system in the 1960's.

In responce to this post, I feel that now is a good time to post something that I have been working on. Check out my post Titled - Separation of Church and State: The Big Lie

Oh, do you mean those documents that where commingling church and state and were changed because they were not in the interest of the people?

"Judeo CHRISTIAN ethics are the basis of law founded in this country."

Sorry, but the basis of law in this country is English common law, save for Louisiana.

When are you going to attach to reality?

"Stop the insane arguments, you've lost!"

Oh contraire, the game is young.

PING!!

Grat job, Ker. I'm bookmarking this for the next "Christian Nation" thread.

I still cannot figure out why so many people cannot figure out that America is NOT supposed to be a religious-based nation. The wording is quite clear.

But, then again, "Shall nmot be Infringed" was pretty clear, too.

Also, our system of representative republicanism comes from the ancient Greeks, who also had the philosophical roots of Individual Liberty. They pre-dated Christianity by a few millennia.

Actually, it was "only" several centuries.
