Who is John B. White?

That's what my friend Ellen asked when sitting by a hotel pool her husband managed in Spartenburg. A well-dressed, groomed woman drove up to the pool in a golf cart, which frankly looked silly, and my friend introduced herself and then asked this woman who she was. The fancy pants lady looked shocked that my friend did know who she was and proclaimed, "I'm John B. White's sista". My friend added further insult to injury when she asked this 'sista' who in the heck was John B. White.

John B. White, who I think is now dead, was a prominent Republican in Spartenburg. He opened up a barbeque's hot spot in town and prominent national Republican politicians would fly in to Spartenburg for photo ops at this bar-b-que spot. I thought only dems acted like this but apparently, in the south anyway, they can be pretty snooty.

Maybe your sista knows the famous bar-b-que place? The name escapes me now but the food sure is good. And that, is who John B. White is. In our family whenever we see someone acting a bit uppitty we always invoke the, "I'm John B. White's sista!" announcement.

That is a funny story!
You know, I have lived in SC about 10 years and never really knew who John White was! I thought it was John D. White to be honest with you. I know there is a street in Spartanburg named after him but that was as far as my knowledge of this person went!

That is a funny story!
It is hysterically funny when my friend tells it in her snobby southern accent.

I'm so glad you said that it was funny. I emailed this story and my post to Ellen and my husband. When my husband, who is not a freeper, found out after he got home from work that it was me that wrote the 'John B. White sista' post (he doesn't even know my screen name!) he said, "Oh, well, then its not so funny now."

All this talk makes me want to have one of his bar-b-que sandwiches.

An excellent play by play report you gave there. Thanks so much! Good job. You do a better job than 90% of the reporting I read.

Wow! Thanks!! That's a nice thing to hear. It really was a fascinating thing to watch. Only one local channel here covered it all day...don't think they were expecting it to be all day! Everyone interviewed kept saying this guy would never get violent but when he started shooting out the window...that changed!
Also, I saw on your profile that you and I have much in common..I am also a Packer's fan but only because I went to the same college as Brett Farve and am from the same neck of the woods he is. I also home school my son.

Well good morning to you! Packer fan! They're the best! We lived near Green Bay for about 4 years and those were my favorite football watching days. (you pretty much have to be a Packer fan if you're in Green Bay) So you saw Bret play all through college? How fun.

My husband and I first saw Bret play in the Senior Bowl in Mobile AL. He played great and my husband kept saying, "Who is this Bret Fav-re?" He just knew Bret was headed great places. We couldn't even promounce him name. I was more interested in watching Ricky Watters at that same game. He was great too.
