"She and Grace Slick were stuff dreams were made of."

Years ago I was working as an usher at a Jefferson Airplane concert, and ended up standing next to Slick. I was amazed how tiny she was - she looked about 5'2 and 105 pounds. The tiny body didn't seem to match the big voice and the hard (so it seemed to me) personality.

For all her counter-culture image, Grace was really all about her career. She was (is?) 5'8" and tried to stay about 125 pounds. She was very concerned about looking fat on TV.

She got up to 160 pounds in the early 1970's. "Screw" magazine called her Jefferson Blimp. By the time I saw her in 1980, during the "Dreams" and first book promo, she was down to about 115. My arms were bigger than her legs.

I saw her last about a year and a half ago at one of her art shows. She is white-haired (actually has been since her mid-20's) and a more than a bit chunky. But she was very pretty. Her eyes are amazing.

Grace Slick was meant to be a star. And she knows it. Seek and find her song "Love Too Good". She is a fantastic vocal artist.

Ronstadt, 58, [finds] her fans are polarized by her nightly on-stage salute to "Fahrenheit 9/11" filmmaker Michael Moore.

"I've been dedicating a song to him – I think he's a great patriot – and it splits the audience down the middle, and they duke it out," she said.

"This is an election year, and I think we're in desperate trouble and it's time for people to speak up and not pipe down. It's a real conflict for me when I go to a concert and find out somebody in the audience is a Republican or fundamental Christian. It can cloud my enjoyment. I'd rather not know."

Hope she was humiliated. These people like Ronstadt think they have the right to say anything at any time and any place without consequences. I should try that at my job, see where that gets me.

Kudos to Aladdin for getting it. The bottom line is when a celebrity starts offending customers, its time to show him or her the door. Those pro-Moore and anti-Bush comments were out of place in an entertainment venue. Plus, Nevada is a Red State where you have to be politically tone deaf to flaunt in people's faces the fact that you're a Lefty. Linda Ronstadt's politics have never been a secret but her poor judgment in front of her fans was. I'm glad she got shown the door.

"But I don't believe others should be accorded the same consideration from celebrities", Ronstadt added.

Hundreds of angry fans streamed from the theater as Ronstadt sang. Some of them reportedly defaced posters of her in the lobby, writing comments and tossing drinks on her pictures.

HOORAY for Free Speech from average Americans.

Guess where I will be Friday? Checking into the Aladdin! (Really!)

I'll ask around and look for scraps of LR's posters.

If I am able to get any information worth posting, I will report to you next week, (internet challenged for a while).

Good luck with that ("internet challenged"...I know the feeling from spring training travel adventures!) and have a great time in Vegas!

Thanks for the "ping" re: Ms. Ronstadt...she's never been a "great" singer, but I always liked her work until now (at least, I haven't heard anything from her since my college days, but I presumed she just continued on as a musician...Gilbert & Sullivan, Nelson Riddle, etc...)

LR may have had a "hit" with "Desperado" and "What's New" (among others), but those weren't even her songs! Just her "personal artistic interpretation" of other people's music...which is fine, but I don't want her "personal artistic interpretation" of anything to do with serious state, local, national or global governance issues!!

It's excellent the Aladdin "management" and patrons said "likewise", in a very tactful manner...LR can mutter all she wants about Vegas not being a great gig, but I won't take that little egoism seriously until I see her turning down world tours! Sorry to hear she's trying to rebuild her career by glomming on to Michael Moore...she really should just "shut up and sing"!!

Everything shouldn't have to be about "politics", but some people just keep pushing that envelope...at least Lynn Swann is speaking up, and he would know at least as much about real-life America and policy leadership as Linda and these self-appointed "arts and therefore politics" mavens do...!!
