I was wondering that myself. Someone was screaming in Spanish. Who knows what the heck that's about.
They have a monster stick just south of the border. It must be picking up local handheld frequencies then.

i don't have any maps on ventura county past part of simi valley.Where is that brushfire?
It looks like Cable will take his Type 1 team there and work both the Crown and Foothill fires(Crown Complex). More resources will be coming, but getting them organized and effective is the problem. When radio communication becomes overloaded, then things are getting dangerous, and that seems to be the case now. Both Air Ops and the crews seem to be having problems. The Spanish is likely from the crews. Many of the contract crews are Hispanic, and use Spanish on the line or tactical radio freqs. Crews should have at least two, fluent English speakers, and there is an effort to get at least one English speaker per squad.
You are doing a great job with this thread. I think it shows how the Internet can be useful in emergencies.
Not fair. There are a lot of conservatives here that look around and say, "What the heck is happening here"? We work here and raise our families. We pay way too many taxes because of all the minority entitlements. \
END THE ENTITLEMENTS Taxation them will be much less. No more food stamps, no more hud, no more welfare.
Huh?
Thanks for the pictures. I'm confused, is this another fire?
the CROWN fire broke out about 12 miles up the road from the FOOTHILL fire this past weekend. A lot of the responding resources came from there.
Thanks for the info.
I remember getting into this with some people last year. I told them that if they can come up with a commercially profitable use for chaparral and brush, extracted from steep hillsides, they'll become billionaires.
Did the conference participants ever get around to updating the fire stats?
October. Maybe. The way it's been running the last few years, more likely January.
I have given up on the local news for anything except car chases...
No, the "press conference" did not get around to updating stats. What I heard unofficially is that some of CA's power may be interrupted if the fire seriously threatens the grid in that area. Sacramento was expected to release some info on that, but I haven't heard of anything so far.
Does anyone know what "500 Powerline" is? At least my hubby will be off the line for a while as he observes the grid. His cell phone may be 10-7 in that area so I may not hear anything.
