Open Letter from Congressman Scott McInnis (R-CO) to Senator John Kerry Regarding His Flip-Flop on the Healthy Forest Initiative Senator Kerry- During your recent campaign stops throughout the west, you have waffled in your position on the President's Healthy Forests Initiative. At the time of passage in 2003, you made unfounded claims concerning the Administration's forest health policies. As you said, "Bush signed the so-called 'Healthy Forests' initiative that takes a chainsaw to public forests in the name of protecting them." As you travel west, now you are saying, "I like a lot of parts of [Healthy Forests]." As a Westerner, who authored the Healthy Forests bill, and as someone who understands the dangers Colorado faces from wildfire every summer, it is appalling to hear you tout the importance of the initiative to the West. It is almost comic to watch you pander to Western voters. This issue as with many others is one in which you've flip-flopped, trying to be all things to all people. As with the war in Iraq and improving our children's education, you acknowledge the importance of the actions taken by our President but fail to stand by our men and women in uniform or our children stuck in failing schools. Having grown up in the west amongst our nation's forests, I appreciate the leadership role the President has taken in addressing the wildfire crisis. The President worked with dozens of your Democratic colleagues to address this crisis. However, when our region, the President, and our nation needed you most, you were nowhere to be found. No amount of double-speak can change the fact that you have no understanding of Colorado's issues or values and simply stated are the wrong candidate for western voters. Respectfully- Congressman Scott McInnis
(title edited for length)
Now it appears you've changed your position, emphasizing your support for many of the forest management reforms President Bush has implemented.
Scott McInnis is such a great man! I volunteered on one of his campaigns when I was in high school and have voted for him every time. Colorado District 3 is losing a great representative. I really wish he was running for the Senate spot.

Dont expect an answer and if there is one there will be no truth in it. Kerry flip flops so often its impossible to find what he really stand for or if he stands for anything.
sheeeeeeesh.
expecting him to pick ONE side of "healty forests" and
sticking with it just isn't asking too much. maybe GWB
should try to pin him down on "fresh air and sunshine".
Or Governor !
It was a sad day for Colorado when he rode off.
