Anyone who has been serving their country should have their vote stamped in gold and counted FIRST...Amen Tamsey.
Yet another possible surprise in the making: Hawaii, which voted Democratic in the past three presidential elections, but has a tendency to vote for the incumbent. That coupled with its high concentration of military-related families makes it "winnable" for the president, Mr. Goeas says.
I would so love this!

Yet the voting stations were still open another hour in the north western part of Florida,No, it was only like 10-12 minutes early. There was still an adverse impact to the Bush camp, though, no doubt.

Correction. Al Gore would have been in the White House. By now, some unwashed ayatollah would be sitting on the floor of the Oval Office (having burnt the furniture as firewood), and he would tryst with his goat in the side office where Clinton bespattered Monica. I mean, you don't seriously think we'd be fighting this war in their countries if the forces of "musta-had-too-many-ice-teas" were in office.
LOL!
Yes and the #1 selling chidrens's game would be "Hooked on Arabic" and my wardrobe would consist of nothing but dirty nightshirts.

I have heard rumour of legislation that would require that ALL votes be counted. Regardless of the outcome or affect upon the electoral results.
Had all of the votes been counted in 2000 there would be no talk of Gore having won the popular vote.

I don't know how many votes were actually discarded. Certainly lack of postmark was one of the things that Democrats were trying to use to eliminate military votes. Some FPOs, shipboard ones, did not have post-marking eqipment.
I think it was half wanting to help Gore, and half that you just can't be a Democrat any more without hating soldiers.
You are right also that the military vote is a big impetus behind e-voting. It is very hard to do though! That is because voting must be secure, reliable, in some way auditable, and anonymous. That's a very tall order with current networking protocols. You can do secure (think of e-commerce) and you can do anonymous, but there's no practical way to do both. Also, e-commerce level of security is too low for voting. In e-commerce you can put an error right with a chargeback. Not so easy to do that with an election!

Thanks. I got it. And, I'm happy. Eglin AFB is one of the largest military installations in America and with the military leaning toward The Prez.....

In fact, the networks which called Florida for Gore did so early in the eveningbefore polls had even closed in the Florida panhandle, which is part of the Central Time Zone. NBC called Florida for Gore at 7:49:40 p.m., Eastern Time.
Thank you!
This was 10 minutes before polls closed in the Florida panhandle. Thirty seconds later, CBS called Florida for Gore. And at 7:52 p.m., Fox called Florida for Gore. Moore never lets the audience know that Fox was among the networks which made the error of calling Florida for Gore prematurely. Then at 8:02 p.m., ABC called Florida for Gore. Only ABC had waited until the Florida polls were closed.
How many hundreds of more W's vote would have been added in his column, if the alGore victory had not been declared before precincts closing???

Lots. Maybe enough to have prevented that entire recount fiasco. And it without a doubt cost Dubya the state of New Mexico, which actually finished with a smaller margin (less than 400 votes) than FL.

Most military declare Domicile in a state with no income tax as soon as possible and keep that until retirement. Military families are not crazy - Declaring domicile in a state that has income tax can cost them thousands of dollars each year. They attach themselves to a tax free state asap and hold on tight!

Every one of us who knows a person or family stationed over seas should make sure that they get absente ballot requests. Remind them that the requests should be made asap so that the ballot will be mailed to them on the first available date. Then they must fill it out and mail it back right away. It is imperitive that we remind our friends and family overseas about the deadlines for voting and the importance of their votes.

If you are a servicemember stationed in CONUS or overseas, you can register to vote absentee. The UOCAVA (Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act)
requires that the states and territories allow certain U.S. citizens, as defined below,
to register and vote absentee in elections for Federal office.
These groups include:
Members of the Uniformed Services (including Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard)
Merchant Marines
Eligible family members of the above
Commissioned Corps of the Public Health Service,
and Commissioned Corps of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
U.S. citizens employed by the Federal Government residing outside the U.S.,
and All other private U.S. citizens residing outside the U.S.
If you are eligible to register under UOCAVA, CLICK HERE and follow the instructions.

Having gone through the process of ensuring that The Sailor can vote, I found out that there is another easy way to ensure that our military can receive their ballots. If you are stressing out trying to figure out how to get an application, you can click on the Sample to find out how to do it.
You will need to open up the ballot with Adobe Acrobat Reader. If you don't know how to open up .pdf files, don't worry. You can easily visit their site to get a free installation of Adobe's Acrobat reader.

We must all work together to ensure that our Troops have the right to vote. This is the least we can do for them. If you know anyone overseas or stationed away from their "home of records", please send them this link. It is important.
