Was she on the floor of Congress..?
We keep talking about it, but we're car-campers. It's just easier with kids I guess. Plus we're dutch oven cooks, and well, you see....
I guess this is one time some people on the left might justify:
a. the use of a *choke* gun
b. the killing of helpless wildlife
Somebody talked about the gasoline trick? LOL It was on TV that is where I heard about it.
I've been to Yreka. In a car. So glad we didn't step out to take in the scenery, as I didn't know this about the rattlers.
I agree.I love and respect snakes. Most people don't realize how important a role snakes play in nature, they just react to the snake's appearance. Same as people do spiders.
I'm only about 20 minutes from the top of the Flathead lake. Weather has been very changeable, so pack for all eventualities. Have you been to Montana before? And if so how could you leave? ;^)
"midget rattle snakes"
Those are called Pygmy Rattlers.
And, as we heard, "That goes a long way," although I don't know in which direction or toward which goal.
Wow, was in Livinston last week for the yearly Roundup. The only scary thing I saw was a guy driving down the sidewalk in a PT Cruiser at 10:30 p.m. with no headlights on. Cops pulled him over pretty fast - obviously he was enjoying the 6-packs sold at the rodeo.
Glad we're at a high enough elevation not to have to worry about rattlesnakes and only have to concentrate on bears :o).
Yes I have made several trips to Montana over my life. It was very had to leave every time but I think winter would drive me away. I am acustomed to Texas gulf coast winters. A house in each place would be ideal.
That (post 122) is hilarious. Thanks for posting it.
I'll never go in another culvert again!
:-)
Not too many folks I know are willing to hike 7 to 15 miles into the woods w/ 50+ lbs of gear. I love it. That's where you find the nicest places, but it can be brutal at times. I've been pinned down in severe storms that were downright scary.
Don't get me wrong, I do my share of car camping as well.
I work inside and sleep inside (most of the time) so I jump at any opportunity to get into the woods.
No, that's wrong. Use kerosene or diesel and spray it around with one of those pump bottles.
My boss and I went up to a radar range that wasn't used in a while during August to prepare it for a project and clean up. I moved an object and this great big California King snake got 4 feet high and stared at us before going away fast. Shit! It must have been 7 feet long! Use kerosene. It works on wasps, too:)
In the honorable tradition of Rush explaining the "No Child's Behind Left Alone Act" 2xLOL!
Several years ago, while taking a short cut through the woods, I jumped on a log to get over a pile of blackberry bushes. That sound froze this old bode. I'm pretty sure that I set an unofficial worlds record for the standing broad jump after my heart started. Never even thought of going back for a look. It was the LOUDEST rattle I've ever heard......
We had a family reunion vacation on Flathead Lake last summer. One of my most favorite places on the planet! My Dad's folks homesteaded in the Charlo area and we have great sentimental ties. I was actually born in Polson during a family visit (jumped the gun by a month!)
Not when they're at a Daschle rally, they're not!!! ;-D
