The cell phone took them there and the cell phone saved them. The irony.

I think they'd arrest someone who shot rattlers in NY.

Cell phones save people. Guns kill people.
Any questions?

I've done a lot of back-country camping. I've walked right past a rattle snake before. It didn't even rattle it's tail. It did it's best impersonation of a stick and let me walk on by. Not 10 minutes before, I was going to sit down and doctor my feet (preventing blisters). Right before I sat down on a log I happened to look down and see a small rattler right between my boots. It also did it's best impersonation of a stick.
Rattle snakes are generally docile unless you step on or surprise one. The previous summer I ran across another one and it was very upset with me. It did rattle and tried to strike. I ended up having to shoot it.

Stop that. Snakes are good. Rats are bad.

I think they'd arrest someone who shot rattlers in NY. If not, it would be open season on the majority of your state's Congressional delegation.

Night of July 4 I fell out of bed trying to escape while dreaming that I woke up with someone taking a basket of snakes and dumping them on the foot of my bed while I was sleeping. I didn't wait but tried to get out of bed ASAP. Scared the bejesus out of me thinking about the crawly creatures. (For those freepers thinking, I hadn't imbibed one iota either.)

Being a Kansas boy, it's hard to believe there are areas of the country that are unsafe because they're infested rattlesnakes! A few years ago a physician friend of mind talked me out of hiking the "wilderness" around Yreka, CA. Looked good to me on the map. No towns or roads for miles, etc. But he said he and his buddies growing up around there avoided those hills like the plague because the land is literally crawling with rattlers this time of year, BRRRRRRRR! I can deal with an occasional snake. But the idea of walking out into a field and finding it's got one snake in every square yard, does give 'ya the shivers.
