"I guarantee you, that Kerry can match you person for person with endorsements from sports, and can destroy Bush in celebrity endorsements. Either you accept them as relevant, and Bush takes it on the chin, or you must argue that a celebrity endorsement is only valuable if the celebrity's arguments and reasoning process are valid. In other words, substance, not proponent, governs."
Here, I think, is the true crux of the matter.
The validity and the reputation of the endorsers of the different political candidates.
This is where politics turns into a 'Pi**ing contest.'
Each wants to build a facade of integrity, morality and trust to get the voters endorsement. Or do they?
At this point in our rather jaded political experience many are not just satisfied with those basic traits, or the appearance of them, in their candidates. They want someone who can "Do the Dirty Deeds that Need to be Done!."
Face it, thats what is needed for this climate and world reality. Republicans previously have not been effective with presenting this in their major office holders; they have too long played the 'Good Guy' and lost because of it.
Republicans have now not only taken some pages from the Demo play-book, they've stole it, re-wrote it and are adding new things to it. And its time this was done.
America, and the world (no matter what the media says) wants strong decisive leadership during this war. Its a global war and other gov'ts are waking up to this.
No matter who Kerry brings out for the grip & grins, people are going to take a long hard look at their bona fides. I doubt the kind of person who is a strong character reference for Kerry will stand very tall under that scrutiny.
Hollyweird and the entertainment industry can blacklist somebody, but with sports you will find more Republicans because you cannot deny in sports.
