I recall the patients in the movie "Awakenings" who are immobilized apparently because the brain activity is too rapid for them to actually make a move.
I would expect to be thinking new thoughts faster than I could write them down, unless I disciplined myself to concentrate only on the writing while I was writing.
I took a course years ago on time management. Probably the most important thing learned was that it was critical to decide which things I really wanted to do. Time was wasted if it was spent on things that I would later decide were less important than others.
I can understand the same concern when it comes to thinking. We really can choose what to think about. To be most "successful", however each of us wishes to define success, it would be helpful to spend more time thinking about the obstacles to our success or the steps to reach that success, and less time thinking about other things.
As Freepers, who among us has not wondered whether our time and our thinking might be better spent elsewhere?
It's one thing to "know what kinds of thoughts are going through your head" and something else "to know what to do with them."
I once did this for a day. Didn't get anything done but it was very interesting going over it.
