With the farce that is F911 out, I think it is critically important to correct out one of its most basic lies. Namely, the Bush is the first American president to seriously buck the Saudis, and that the Saudis allies in America are in fact the anti-war Left.

Note that the Middle East Institute mentioned by Pipes is also Joe Wilson's employer...

The Saudi Regime is the best government that can ever come to Saudi Arabia.

Apparently people don't seem to just 'get it'.. the Saudi people are extremely radical and religious people any form of democratic government will have severely bad implications for us.

The last thing we need is a democratically elected government in Saudi Arabia.

And in April 2002, a leading Saudi figure warned that to survive, the Kingdom would contemplate joining with America's worst enemies: if reason of state requires that "we move to the right of bin Laden, so be it; to the left of [Libya's ruler Muammar] Qaddafi, so be it; or fly to Baghdad and embrace Saddam like a brother, so be it."

And if, to preserve the stability of the world oil supply, we must cowtow to the Saudis, well... so be it, apparently.

It is absolutely appalling that the Saudis have got a complete pass from our government. 15 of the 19 911 hijackers were Saudi and yet we still aren't able to investigate them over there. So pathetic to see us kowtowing to the Saudi oilty.... er royalty...

Musharraf has a far worse situation, and has been a much better ally in the WoT.

The Saudis are fighting us tooth and nail with their primary weapons - money and influence. That's why their tools like Joe Wilson and Andrew Killgore have been popping up to cause us trouble.

All the while Fat*** Moore makes a movie claiming that Bush has a special relationship with the Saudis??? HA!

So, the Saudis are a bunch of religious fanatics that are stuck in a 6th century set of mores, why not humor them if it is to our advantage? It's a lot easier to play along than to try to bring Saudi Arabia into the 21st century. The royal family may control the money and the army in Saudi Arabia, but the Mullahs (or whatever they are called) control the minds of the people.

That isn't what I was referring to. I was referring to any deference that was shown to following the Saudi customs when dealing with them. It's called statesmanship. You make them think that you are deferring to them on unimportant customs, and then push for the important issues.

Yes, the inherent problem is they won't work with us on key issues.

Prior to the fall of the Soviets, the Saudis were indeed allies, if abhorrent ones.

Now they are just abhorrent. And they have far more influence in DC then most anyone wants to admit...

Dittos! Finally someone who gets it. The Saud royal family may be bad but there are alternatives much worse. Somehow we have to encourage these muslim governments to help us get these terrorists. Delicate situation.

Thanks for reminding me that Saudi Arabia officially opposed the invasion:

Saudi Arabia: Previously said it would allow the US to use its bases for a strike on Iraq - providing the action is endorsed by the UN. But in an early November, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud al-Faisal said that while his country would co-operate with any Security Council resolution on Iraq, it would not allow the US to use its facilities for any attack. He later pulled back from this, and suggested that his government had not decided whether or not to allow US troops to use bases in Saudi.

So yes, Bush 43 bucked SA on this one.

Also I remember that he appointed Daniel Pipes to some commission, and the Wahabbis complained.

I'm not sure of your point in posting at article from 2002 here.

The Saudis refused to either help, or even allow us to base out of their country - which is why we used Qatar - and Kuwait (a *grateful* country we've liberated) and .

Then they called out their dogs Wilson and Killgore, and probably a number of others they have hidden their ties with better.

It doesn't make as much news as the French knife in the back...but they opposed as just as thoroughly.

Thanks. From your link:

The American Educational Trust, a foundation where some of the former envoys are based, said: "Signatories are united by their belief that the US government is heading toward great danger."

Mr Killgore told the BBC yesterday: "We thought American diplomats were as unhappy as British diplomats were over what the president did."

He said Mr Bush should not "take away the right of the Palestinians to return, or give Sharon the right to take settlement blocks in the West Bank which will hardly leave the Palestinians any contiguous territory".

Mr Killgore said the letter was mainly about policy towards Israel and the Palestinians, but it touched on Iraq too. "If anything, Iraq is worse," he said.

And here we have the "American Educational Trust", Kilgore, and Saudi money, and...:

Andrew Killgore and Richard Curtiss are likely the staunchest allies Saudi Arabia has in the US. The two run a virulently anti-Israel, anti-Jewish magazine called "The Washington Report on Middle East Affairs." It is believed that the Saudis finance them.

Last year Richard Curtiss wrote an article praising Louis Farrakhan. He said that Jews only hate Farrakhan because of his criticism of Israel. Those who have a grasp of recent history know Farrakhan does much more than criticize Israel. In fact, the Nation of Islam leader has called Judaism a "gutter religion" and has incited Jew-hatred amongst his followers for decades.

In 1986 Curtiss and Killgore spoke to Willis Carto's rabidly Jew-hating Liberty Lobby. Carto was also the founder of the Institute for Historical Review, the notorious Holocaust denial movement. Carto has stated that "Israel is a bastard state," that "the defeat of Hitler was the defeat of the West" and that "Jews are public enemy number one."

The Washington Report on Middle East Affairs prints anti-Jewish cartoons. They are taciturn when it comes to Arab Muslims burning down synagogues in France and Britain. They have written articles in which Killgore has claimed that the Mossad, the Israeli intelligence service, might have killed President John F. Kennedy. They print letters from Holocaust deniers. They publish pieces proclaiming there are "Zionist" conspiracies against Christians. They heap praise on every Arab and Muslim nation, while consistently vilifying Israel. They remained silent on Osama Bin Laden until two months after September 11. They have said that Israel knew in advance of the attack, yet Killgore and Curtiss have offered no proof to substantiate that bogus claim. They have defended the Libyans convicted of blowing up Pan Am 103. They also have a relationship with the Holy Land Foundation, an Islamic organization recently shut down by the FBI. Rather than imprison innocent Jews, perhaps the FBI should turn its attention to the conduct of Killgore and Curtiss. They are lapdogs and whores for the Saudi Royal family.

The above comes from FR's "kcvl" - #37 in the thread.

Killgore's "Washington Report on Middle East Affairs," also once ran an article minimizing the Holocaust. It is not available on their website - one of the few articles that is not - amusingly enough.

Killgore and his 50 diplomats made some media waves, but then it all dried up when it turned out he was a rabid anti-semite. A little while later and another group of ex-diplomats pops up criticizing Bush.

Here is a good FR thread from a while back on Killgore...
