I may be wrong but I don't think Texas seals divorce records. Any one know for sure?

Is it a common occurrence to have one's divorce records sealed? What would be the motivation behind that?

Court records are typically public, i.e., you can walk into the appropriate courthouse and ask for them and make copies. Any court records can be sealed if there's a reason that convinces the judge. I think probably most public figures wouldn't have a problem getting divorce records sealed just because they're public figures (too many people would be likely to want to see them to dig up dirt), and it wouldn't surprise me if they routinely requested it.

"I believe most states seal divorce records."

Uh, nope. Divorce Court proceedings are open and the records are public documents and pretty much available to anyone - if you follow the required procedures to obtain them from the County Clerk1. It's the exception2 that they're sealed.

1; I'm fairly sure it's the County Clerk. But it may be the Clerk of the Court.

2; 'The Rich', aka Social Elites, typically try to get theirs sealed.

NOTE: I'm NOT a lawyer but I did drive past a Holiday Inn Express :-)
