That's the difference. You stil may not agree with Cheney's cursing; but it's not the same situation as Kerry.
Gratuitous is using the word as a verb, noun and adjective in the same sentence as a matter of normal conversation.
I wouldn't use the word "noble". "Understandable" might be a better one.
Sorry, use of the word is use of the word. It's not going to make one whit of difference if either Cheney or Kerry uses it, and it doesn't bother me either way.
A civil if irritated "untrue!" and turning away, would be the comment in order. Hot words kindle hot feelings in yourself as well as in the hearer, and Cheney does not need that for his health.
The man endures a tremendous amount for us. He doesn't let his blood boil too often, that would be bad for his blood pressure. But a pressure release is good for his heart once in a while...lets some of the tension out.
What I haven't seen yet is what Leahy said to elicit the "probable" response from Cheney. I'm more interested in that than the rest of the story.
Disagreeing with just about everyone at FR on the issue, I think the conduct and conversation of such a high official should be above that of those who grovel in the slime. A wise man can learn to hold his tongue in the worst provocations, and, in doing so, proves himself the better man. "Never give in," said Churchill, "and you will never regret it." Cheney gave in to the provocation. Could I have done better? I doubt it, but I would have likely used another word.
However, I accept the fact that he's human and this sort of thing does happen. Just wish it hadn't, as I don't like to hand the left any bullets.
It bothers me that someone would use it to win votes. My belief is that that is what Kerry did.
It's looking like our guys are ready to play tackle football.
"Go entertain yourself" would have been a funnier way for Cheney to have actually put it. And Leahy could have taken it however he wished. A little humor does a lot to defuse a rage.
Leahy is a major league a$$hole and got exactly what he deserved.
What percentage of the Jewish vote in New York did Mrs. 'Toon get when she ran for the Senate?
F*** THE NAZIS, SAYS CHURCHILL'S PARROT By Bill Borrows SHE WAS at Winston Churchill's side during Britain's darkest hour. And now Charlie the parrot is 104 years old...and still cursing the Nazis.
Her favourite sayings were "F*** Hitler" and "F*** the Nazis". And even today, 39 years after the great man's death, she can still be coaxed into repeating them with that unmistakable Churchillian inflection.
Many an admiral or peer of the realm was shocked by the tirade from the bird's cage during crisis meetings with the PM.
But it always brought a smile to the war leader's face.
Churchill bought Charlie - giving him a boy's name despite the fact she was female - in 1937.
He immediately began to teach her to swear - particularly in company - and she is keeping up the tradition today.
Charlie's story is in this month's Jack Magazine, on sale Thursday
the SOuthern alternative is "Bless Your Heart!"
Well men pat each other on the back for this. But God ain't pleased
Essentially, whether or not you think Mr. Cheney was "appropriate" or whatever, golly, somebody saying that to the scumbag Leahy is L O N G O V E R D U E. I say, "It's about time. Let him have it!" The only surprise Leahy had was that that was ALL Cheney said. Leahy is a scumbag - naner, naner, naner.
Instead of saying the F word didn't Clinton tell people, "Nice Tie."
I like that even better... refusing to get mad is more frustrating to the taunter than it is to the tauntee.
But you have to admit, don't you, that SOMETIMES it feels pretty good.
