Please be aware that turning off system restore deletes all previous restore points. Be sure to create a new restore point AFTER updating and running all spyware scans, anti-virus scans, and Windows updates.

You can use the free YaHoo toolbar which has a popup blocker.

Also, Ad Aware Plus and Ad Aware Pro come with a tool called Ad Watch which runs in the background and stops some popups as well as catches a lot of spyware before it's installed. Those programs are the upgrade (for a small price) of the standard free Ad Aware program.

I highly recommend spyware blaster. I have it on all the machines I manage. It does not run in the background, but it does disable spyware, even if it hasn't been installed yet. In fact it prevents most stuff from being installed and prevents you (or your kids) from seeing the offer to install spyware.

Now, how do you stop pop-up's?

Use anything other than Internet Explorer. Firefox is good.

You're very welcome. I would have thought that Spybot would have at the very least said that you were out-of-date, and that maybe it would direct you to a download site.

But hey, it's freeware, so I guess I can't complain.
