They already cut the alcohol from 25 to 10%. Nyquil is not nearly as effective as it used to be IMHO.
"Now at your Drugstore"???? This stuff has been around for years. One real danger is when parents (we found out the hard way) accidentally overdose their todlers.
I know. It's really tough to get down. I always gag on just the recommended dose.

The same way people can chug alcohol until their heart stops or push a needle into themselves or, like my mom did, keep drinking until you die at the age of 39. Sometimes you have to work at hurting yourself to be that good at it. I was only 20 when I lost my mom to alcoholism and I know from experience how hard it is to stop someone from hurting themselves if they want to do it. You just have to hope they decide they don't want to anymore. Or that they are smart enough not to start in the first place. With kids, you try to give them good information about the harmful effects of drugs, alcohol, smoking, etc. and be there for them but there are no guarantees that it will be enough. Hopefully they will realize that they are worth taking care of and have enough self-respect to make good choices.

Or at least have a three-day waiting period and a background check.
Pharmacist: "What did you do with the bottle of cough medicine I sold you last May? Can you prove you used it responsibly and that you deserve to have another one?" We need to have more follow-up on these things. We need a tracking system so that we will know where all of these meds go. Maybe we should make people register their medications and account for their whereabouts.

I could see how that could happen if you are not aware of the possibility of overdosing on some medications although there should be warnings. I hope you don't mean a massive overdose.
On an equally frightening note, I knew of some parents who gave their toddler a suppository but they didn't know what that meant (another strong argument for literacy) so they had him take it orally. Luckily it was only glycerin and didn't do any harm but - UGH!!
It was fairly small, but somewhat frightening. She began acting all silly, sluring her words, etc. We had no idea that this was a halucinogen or that it was contained in children's cough syrup.
You're right, that would be frightening. I'n glad it wasn't anything worse but I'm sure you felt it was bad enough.
My daughter once grabbed a pill I had set down and swallowed it before I could stop her. It was a low dose medication which my doctor later said would not have hurt her but we called Poison Control and they told us to give her Ipecac and make her throw up. That was a lot of fun!! We figured if we had to do it we would make it an object lesson about not taking any pills or medication unless you are supposed to.
Hopefully it worked, she's 26 now and we have not had any indication that she did any drugs (not that she would have told us, of course but we were tuned in as much as possible and saw no signs).
