I suppose that President Bush can allow anyone to use his airplane at any time he wants, what with him being Commander-in-Chief and all. I'm sure it's costing a couple of million bucks, but fiscal conservatism has never been one of his strong points. If Clinton croaks while Bush is in office I wonder if he'll extend the same courtesy to the Clinton family? Any bets? It doesnt have anything to do with Bush. Its one of the perks of being a past President. Yes CLinton when he dies will be afforded the same priviledge if Hillary requests it. Its part of protocol. Its paid for out of the same budget that is set up for handling office and staff of past Presidents.
Its the same kind of perk that the PResident whose term has expired still gets to fly "Air FOrce ONe" home. By the way, Clinton did fly all the living Presidents and their wives to the Funeral of President Nixon which was not a state funeral.
One question, what makes you so hateful? You share little with President Reagan.

>>>I suppose that President Bush can allow anyone to use his airplane at any time he wants, what with him being Commander-in-Chief and all.Not really. In this specific case, however, its being put to a good use. Stop your whining.

I only wish it's course would put it over my little place.
Would be an honor to stand outside, look up and salute.

Unofficial call sign - GipperOne?? No, it would be "Rawhide". (The President's real call sign in office)

Thank you.
That explains the AF1 that took off about 45 minutes before the othe AF1 with the Reagans aboard.

He would have the plane deloused afterwards, but he is too classy not to do it even for a Clinton Funeral.

Strangely enough, the reason the Air Force One, Marine One, etc. designation came into being was because, the first President to fly (Eisenhower I think) arrived at an airport at the same time as another plane with the same designation. Apparently, the confusion almost cause a plane crash. Since, that time any plane that carries the President is designated by the military branch and the number one.

And yes, if Clinton were to die, I have no doubt that he would be afforded the same.

It is my understanding that when Senator Hillary Clinton was visiting Afghanistan last November and flying in an Army Chopper the pilot used the call sign Broom Stick One.

Used to be an Army detachment and they used Army One.The Marine Corps and the Army used to share the duty of flying the President via helicopter starting in 1957. This was changed to a Marine Corps only function by Gerald Ford in 1976 after the Army dumped a VH-3 into the Potomac. It was never a sole function of the Army.
To: Rogle
I like it! Harpy One would also have been appropriate.
