Lame. I thought G8 was when everybody gave a protest and nobody came.

I heard 50 people showed up for the protest in Savannah. 50.

50 is a very high estimate. I have seen news reports saying 20 protestors showed up.

Fox showed the park where the protestors were to have a rally and hear speechs. They showed the stage, the completely EMPTY park infront of the stage and said (paraphrasing, "Protestors were to hear speechs, but with no one to listen to the speechs..."

If a protester falls at the Children's Garden and no one is there to hear it...Was it a protest?

Maybe 50 showed at Brunswick last night.

There were lots more cops than protesters.

I'm glad we didn't have plans to tourize in Raleigh this weekend. Such idiocy ...

Why are there such protests against the G8?

"What do we want?" "We don't know!" "When do we want it?" "NOW!" (A chant used by the DC Chapter to counterprotest.)

I have no idea what they're protesting for ... something to do with "internationalism"? I'm just annoyed that it's my tax dollars going to waste while they shut down Raleigh for a handful of fruitbats.

What exactly are they protesting???

When they're clever, they try to be circumspect, but the real answer (which they sometimes admit): Capitalism.

This would be fun to FReep, if it's even worth it.

The ones who can utter a complete sentence say they're protesting "globalization." The others are stoned, stupid, or both.

I love the DC Chapter chant.

The DC Chapter has lots of good opportunities ... things are boring where I live :-).

The speaking roster was larger than the protest audience.

FNC had pictures. There were less that 20 people standing in front of a stage which had around 20 speakers assembled.

There had to be two TV cameras for every person standing in the audience.

The media was deeply saddened.

I think I saw you at the Fayetteville event in March, but I'm not sure. You wrote in the threads afterward, anyway, didn't you?

There were lots more cops than protesters.

No matter where they meet, the G8 politburo always imposes martial law on the local community so that their plans for a global utopia are not disrupted.

No, my daughter had a horse show and my sons were at Scout camp that weekend. I'm sure you saw my name on the threads, complaining about not being there ... I'm the one who, possibly, looks exactly like Catherine Zeta-Jones.

If the UNC-Wilmington FReep comes off in August, I'll be there. I've got the date reserved and the money saved!

It was a brilliant move on the Fed's part to hold the G8 conference at St. Simons Island. Its a divide and conquer tactic as it geographically denies the anarchists a place to gather enmass.

Pathetic, scattered protests are the best they can muster. I am disgusted with the Raliegh and capital police allowing the closing of the museums instead of cracking heads.

OK, hardly worth it, then. Where have all the alienated, tattooed, pierced, trans-gendered socialists gone in Raleigh ?

Oh, that's right, I forgot - The People's Republic of Chapel Hill. And 9th Street in Durham.

I would definitely remember if I saw you, then. What's going on in August?

There's a proposal to FReep UNC-Wilmington when the incoming freshmen are arriving. Things have been even more outrageously leftist there than the rest of the UNC system; also it's at the beach!

I'm not sure it will really happen, but I plan to take the weekend off, anyway.
