"We can not afford another term of Bush. I truly
believe Nancy Reagan feels the same way. Her son Ron Jr. most certainly does."
I seriously doubt Nancy Reagan has had time to feel much of anything except grief for the past few years. As far as Ron, Jr., is concerned...Michael Reagan, the adopted son, is more of a man than the "birth son" will ever be. (Just my opinion, of course)
"How many people died of HIV who would be alive today if not for Reagan?" another mused. "I'm glad he's dead. I hope he suffered at least half as much as my lover suffered. Though I doubt he did. His kind never do."
I did not realize HIV affected a person's mental capacity to think rationally and accept responsibility for one's own actions.
I'll second that.
It use to be that the major difference between Democrats and Republicans was their commitment to socal programs. Both supported them and the question was just what was the price.
Both parties had a genral stand againt the expansion of Communisim...Kennedy and Johnson both opposed the Soviets...Both parties stood up for the US.....But since 1972 the Democrats have moved as a Party so far to the left it has abandon the working class and middle class base....soon if you eat meat, go to church, drive a big car/SUV, and belive in America as the SHinning City on the Hill....They will hate you.
The difference between the Wellstone funeral and the Reagan funeral is they (the DEMS) exploied the funeral as a political rally to trash the opposition. The Reagan funeral will to honor both an American and America.
I need some help from anyone on this thread regarding the closure of the mental hospitals in California when Reagan was Governor. My recollection is that this was already decided under the Pat Brown administration and just enacted under Reagan. Is this correct? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've searched the web, but can find nothing conclusive.
It was nationwide, not just California. If you are looking for dirt on Reagan, you'll have to look elsewhere.
I disagree. Osama Bin Laden and Saddam Hussein are evil men. Bill Clinton is someone who we happen to disagree with politically who has some serious character flaws and has done some bad things. I'm not saying there isn't absolute morality but I'll save the characterization of evil for someone like those whose convince children to become suicide bombers. I'm no Clinton lover but I am seriously uncomfortable with casting political debate in this country in terms of good and evil. I think of it as more of right and wrong.
One of the reasons the DU posters think it's acceptable to celebrate President Reagan's death is because they think of him as evil. I don't know about you, but personally, I'm in no hurry to start thinking like they do.
It has nothing to do with politics, Clinton is simply an evil man.
Second, talking about "bloggers" in the broad way makes about as much sense as the headline "Americans Attack Reagan"--after all, the people who are attacking Reagan are Americans, right? Who cares that most Americans aren't attacking him?
I don't know; do we have to wait 'til he dies?
I don't know; do we have to wait 'til he dies?
Good Question, and danged if I can answer it.
I was definitely not looking for dirt on Reagan. I've been battling some leftists on a sports board that I frequent and they had been blaming him for shutting down the mental hospitals in California during the 60s. My recollection was that, although it had occurred when Reagan was Governor, the plan had been developed under Pat Brown and was a done deal by the time Reagan took office. I resent your implication.
I'm as big a fan of Reagan as anyone. I helped on his campaign for President in our area when I was in college (UC Davis) and met him several times (including when he was governor). My grandmother worked in the Governor's office when he was Governor. She has a wonderful picture of him and Nancy eating ice cream cones that will one day be mine. It's probably the nicest picture of Nancy I've ever seen. She seems so happy in it.
It's hard to read much subtlety into a two line post.
