BTW, since when do Fox News article have to be excerpted?
Most of these "credit counseling" services are just sleazy barracudas preying on people trapped in credit card debt.
Why on earth would anyone need to go a credit counseling
firm in the first place?
Stop buying and start paying----seems simple to me.
Heavy Irony Ping.
(I notice Profina has renamed itself something else)
Preying on the desperate. I used a credit counseling service once. I learned my lesson. I paid off my own debt in one year and that was it.
There are two kinds of people in this world, those who believe that the primary purpose of money is for saving and investing, and those who believe that the primary purpose of money is for spending.
The spenders invest their entire lives bemoaning the fact that the saver/investors are selfish pigs who have stolen from them.
Aw, heck, they just need a little sound business advice. I'd be happy to offer my services, for a nominal service charge, of course...
I read a great story on FR a few years ago where a preacher would hold rallies to eliminate peoples' cc debts. Attendees would cough up some cash to pay off a person's debt. Amen!
PS: I thought the message on that site was interesting - the referring company doesn't look any more trustworthy.
I know people who have enrolled w/Ameridebt and saved themselves a ton of money.
This is nothing more than big nanny government once again deciding what they think is best for people.
If the regulators really wanted to help people, they'd go after the credit card companies---who created this problem in the first place.
A debt management company goes bankrupt. The irony....
Funny thing is...that attitude cuts across self-proclaimed political affiliation. You're more likely to see liberals act like this, but some "conservatives" here on FR spout this stuff, too.
Yeah really...there are few good places but most of them are shady operations. I actually saw one of those credit card rallies, saying that credit cards were holding down a lot of christian people. Anyway, you're hard work and discipline.
Sorry, you've either drank the Koolaid or you work for Ameridebt. They're a sham operation. I think the founder even has a fraud conviction on his criminal record.
Ameridebt does nothing for people that they can't do for themselves.
They work with creditors to reduce interest and often lower monthly payments substantially while actually allowing the customer to get out of debt. They can also get creditors to stop calling and it's easier for some people to deal with a single monthly payment than many little payments.
Stop buying and start paying----seems simple to me.
That's like saying that the solution to alcoholism is to just drink moderately. That works for a lot of people but doesn't work for everyone. People mismanaging their debt goes back to ancient Mesopotamia and the development of writing to track debt in the ancient Near East. In fact, laws designed to protect borrowers from lenders are at least 4,000 years old and maybe older.
Hello,
My name ees Manubo Jambalaya, and I from Nigeria and am requesting you help in securing funds.........;-)
I understand about the debt thing, folks just need to get serious about what their priorities are and work it out from there.
Cheers!
They actually created the credit counseling industry about 40 years ago and still control the boards of many agencies. They continue to require all agencies to be non-profit, which takes market forces out of play and leads to corruption.
I would think that conservatives would be a little more skeptical about a media/politician gangbang. Whenever you see "regulators" (i.e. bureaucrats) and the media agreeing on something------run in the opposite direction as fast as you possibly can.
I think it's mismanagement by individuals mostly - their own fault. However cc companies are really marketing to youngsters - every college campus gives away ccards like candy.
How about someone who went thru a bad divorce ... or extended loss of job or someone who was struck by unexpected malady ... like a stroke or heart attack or loss of their spouse. Maybe you're independently wealth and don't need a credit rating to buy a house but most in this country are not that well off ... and you CANNOT have good credit without a credit history. That means having a credit card or two. Your simple question is simple minded
